Why people downvote comments like these is a mystery to me.

We bought our house 7 years ago in Washington County for 175k. Zillow says it’s now valued around 270k not including all of the improvements we’ve done. The market truly is remarkable.

Our stove has an ash-pan, which I empty a couple times a week into a big metal bucket. When the bucket is full, I dump the ashes in the woods.

Barre City - not Barre Town or Berlin would be in that price range. Similar with Northfield, Plainfield or Williamstown but those are a little bit farther out with not as many amenities.

I totally agree with the OP. When an off duty officer is working a private event, and they're in a uniform that says, for instance, city of Burlington Police, that gives the impression that they're working for the city of Burlington in an official capacity, when in fact they are not. This, should not be allowed.

When they are acting in legislative capacity they have immunity from their decisions. I don’t believe they need or deserve that protection from the people they serve.
I’d still allow immunity for decisions made by volunteer boards or officials elected at the town level as they are generally not compensated.

I absolutely do want them accountable, but I didn’t think they had full qualified immunity like the cops do.

IMO you should held to a higher standard at all times, not treated as an average citizen

Who has allowed, and in many instances demanded through law that the police conduct themselves in an authoritarian manner?
Oh yeah, it’s the politicians.
Why don’t you don’t want them to be accountable for their actions?

Oh there's tons of jobs open, many aren't even short term. I just absolutely love my job (organic tick and mosquito control) it pays well and I get to be alone and outside all day. I'd love to find something I could do while snows on the ground yearly but not in a great spot to work at a ski resort or something along those lines.

Don’t blame you for taking the freebies.
Just pointing out that short term jobs are open if someone wants one.

Somehow i missed this conversation the first time around but i have to say that i agree with OP. The problem is bigger than this one contract. LEO occupy a certain place of privilege in society out of necessity. Dont get me wrong, i think the justice system itself has became all but criminal and 2 tiered at least. We have too many laws and too many more that are selectively enforced.
Which brings me back to my point; LEO should be barred from working any type of second job like security that puts them in potential conflict with the rest of us. Do they lose the legal protections they have as LEO when they are on the clock for private entities? If not then they would be a ready made mercenary force ( harsh and over the top wording i know, but i can see some events that could go sideways easily ) that could act with impunity given their protected status. Both seem like Very bad ideas to me.
Just ban them from working these jobs and make the promoters hire private security that are not LE. They have chosen to be LEO, they can always quit and become private sector security guards but it has to be a choice one way or the other imo.

another advantage of Bratt is that it's close to great parts of Mass, which have wonderful restaurants, good stores, etc.

You’ll probably run into some roadblocks with the condition of houses in your 300k price range. Are you capable of renovating the house by yourself?
It’s really hard to find any tradesmen here that aren’t booked out for a year at least and they are hesitant to take on anything but the largest most lucrative projects.Things have been slowing down a little, but it is still much more expensive to have anything renovated here than in other parts of the country. Contractors are still giving “go away” price quotes as they have more business than they need

Try New Hampshire or Maine instead
