Based on what, how many clothes your wearing? Your BMI? Hydration level?

I’ll be outside working all day tomorrow, I’ll let ya know how I survive. Honestly this isn’t anything spectacular. Yes windchill can matter, but I’d much rather see the actual temperatures, sustained wind speed and gusts speeds than a map showing windchill.

Well if a significant chunk of the housing that opens up due to the oldest Vermonters dying is snapped up by investors, second home owners or converted to short term rentals, it’s not going to help the cost of housing for the average person is it? If we are going to have any chance of getting the cost of housing under control we need policy that prioritizes primary occupants and renters not second home owners and air bnb. Also most people who will Be dead in 10 years aren’t in the labor force I’d guess.

Work in social services and made some calls today.

Many of the warming shelters are going to be open beyond usual capacity this weekend. Some are breaking out extra cots to put in places not usually designated bedrooms. The list of official shelters can be found here. Transportation is also available.

Some schools have announced that they’re also opening up as emergency warming shelters, but I haven’t been able to identify a full list.

Cold weather housing is in effect. This means that if someone calls 211 without adequate housing, there may be options for housing in motels paid for through emergency funds (as available).

It’s not nearly enough, but it is something.

Wind chill is a measurement of about how quickly the weather will kill you. It kinda matters a bit. We've never quite gotten a day in vt this cold while simultaneously having this high wind. Its definitely anomalous weather.

Most ski areas have elected to shut down for example. With winds of 50mph the woods dont really protect you

20k people moved here since 2020, that didn't help. There's no building out of this. I think as quality of life declines for all but the 10%, population will stagnate and economic growth will stop because there's no workforce. At the same time lots of old people will be dying. After a period of pain, VT could emerge from this a decent place again in a couple of decades. State estimates are around 30,000 units in the next 5-10 years. Thats almost another Burlington. It ain't happening. services will drop as the workforce hollows out. Remember, every household working from home is housing not going to someone cutting your hair, selling you groceries, delivering your mail, etc. It's already bad. Can't imagine how it won't get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
