just checked GMP. I used 69 kWh yesterday. at $0.18, that's about $13 for heat, lights, fridge, stove, etc

69kwh is roughly 235,000 BTU

a gallon of propane contains about 93,000 BTU

assuming 96% efficient burn in a boiler/furnace, that's about 2.8 gallons of propane

at $3/gallon that's about $8.50.

so yesterday my heat pump was roughly on par with propane heat when you factor in the non heat electric use. today is supposed to be 10 degrees warmer, so I'm confident my heat pump will "win"

So far i have only lost the hot water line that runs under my tub in the BR. That space got skipped when i ran the water cause it was at the end of the day..Man i regret that choice every winter, lol. Been cycling the faucets every hour or so except for that nap i took from like 1230-2..and thats when it froze up ofc, lmao. Oh well it SHOULD thaw pretty quick after it gets above 0.

Tbh im more upset that i have to replace the baffle plate in my woodstove ASAP. After a decade of heavy use its finally bowed down like it all but melted. Ive had it filled 6" of full on glowing coals 2 times so far over night... might write Brrrr in the driveway come daybreak with all the ashes. Stay warm folks!

If you want me to fill out some details, I will. But for now I'll just say that for the most party, Vermont's education taxes are a statewide tax. You are correct regarding the sending towns to a small degree, but it is only a small part of who is paying the bills.

The easiest way to understand our state's ed taxing system is: it's a statewide tax with some local adjustments.

Y’know we had many days like this thru the winters of the 70s. Eye on the Sky’s Mark Breen said 1979 was the coldest on record for the VT/NH Upper Valley. He was right.

I love it in Chittenden County. IMO If you mainly move between places with wifi, Fi is really in its own class as a product.

I wouldn't doubt what people say about it being less reliable in rural areas, but I used to support 100 mobile phones at work on 2 carriers across northern vt and they all had dead zones in the same places.
