Reply to In Slate Ridge case, judge tells Daniel Banyai to remove structures on property or face jail time by [deleted]
Man this case has been on a slow cook for several years. Seems like the walls are closing in on Mr. Banyai. I wonder whether he is going to (1) comply with the court order, (2) go down in a hail of bullets, or (3) disappear from Vermont and hope the courts aren't pissed enough to go looking for him.

2nd for SunCommon. Quick, friendly, comparable pricing to SunRun.

I worked with SunCommon and highly recommend them.
They've been super easy to get ahold of and didn't pressure me at all. SunRun people were too aggressive for my liking.
Plus they are local. If you choose SunCommon dm me and I can do a referral and you'll get $500 off your installation ( I'll get a $500 check as well to be transparent ). Good Luck!

Where?
In my experience, with the station consolidations allowed in the past decade, a number of the transmitters that gave people at least one or two stations were shut down or relocated to more profitable areas. This is on top of already poor reception due to the mountains.

Interesting. I bought a Hearthstone wood stove from them twoish years ago. Zero issues with the purchase, delivery, or installation. Haven’t had to use them for service, and probably never will, I’ll go get the parts from Morrisville if I had to. I have definitely heard bad stories about their service side of the business

From Northeastern University's library website: "Resources include close to 500,000 print volumes..."
Just because you didn't use print books doesn't mean that they don't exist and that they aren't being used by others. And no, not every book is digitized and available.

Pretty useless in the NEK these days unless you really need 12 PBSs and no major networks, but I used to get all the big guys in South Burlington. There are a bunch of websites where you can enter your location and antenna specs and it will give you a list of broadcasters within range you can find on Google. Varies greatly depending on where you are and what mountains are between you and the towers.

If anyone tries to sell you on a tesla power wall, tell them to get fucked. They're trying to sell you the lexus equivalent of a battery. It stores power and sits in a room. You don't need the lexus model to do that.
Edit: Catamount did our install and they were great.

Lots of little towns with downtown / Main Street / central business district areas that could handle more density. I’m not talking condos, more like small starter homes on small lots.

The first amendment isn’t about individuals or even corporations dictating what should or shouldn’t be said. It’s about the government saying that it’s LEGAL to say those things. Just because you can legally say things and not go to prison, doesn’t mean you’re not an asshole for saying those things. The freedom part is about government intervention into what you say, nobody else.

As I keep reading this thread... are you me? LOL. Thank you so much for explaining all of this so clearly. Like I said, I'm not even in Vermont, but wanted to see what people were saying about this.

I haven't looked in a while, but there are lots of providers in Vermont now. I would shop around because it feels like prices change every year. The only one I would avoid is Tesla but otherwise go with whatever company gives you the best bang for the buck

It looks like they're not laying off ALL of the librarians, at least. I hope they realize, though, that maintenance and support for those e-books (or other e-resources) is a LOT of work. I won't get into specifics, but basically, that's what I do. There's a ton of behind-the-scenes work that goes on to make these available and working.
They may find that they need to hire MORE librarians for this.

They are wonderful BEFORE the sale.. Expect zero service after the sale. I'm still waiting for them to come back to fix my expensive gas insert since Thanksgiving. If it wasn't for the Heat Pump I put in two years ago, we would have been quite a bind. How they stay in business is a complete mystery to me.

They have an impressive number of one-star reviews on Google. That said, I had a pleasant and smooth interaction with them when purchasing a hearth pad (with delivery) and later, a door latch assembly that I bought from them and installed myself. Sounds like my experience is in the minority.

Installed air-to-air mini-split heat pumps last summer. 3 indoor head units upstairs, but don't bother heating the lower level since nobody lives down there. They kept putting out heat last Saturday when the outdoor temp hit -17. They did, however, use a lot of kwh that day. I left my 25 year old oil burner and baseboard hydronic system in place as a backup, but I've not needed to run it yet this season. I fired it up last Friday and set the thermostat at 64 in case the mini-splits couldn't keep up, but they kept the indoor temp at 70 so the circulators never kicked on at all. Cost to install was about $12K including electrician. One 12K btu head unit and two 9K btu head units. A/C is a huge bonus, and the units are almost silent. I have a gasoline generator I can hook into my house panel which will run the oil burner and circulators in the event of a power failure. I got about $800 rebate from the state, and I think I'll be getting a nice federal rebate when I file my taxes this year. I'll probably be adding a solar system this summer to reduce cost of heating even more.

Right? (Academic librarian here, not from Vermont, just searched to see if this story was on reddit.) Our most used e-book vendors prevent you from printing more than a certain amount. A few do, but not the majority.
Plus, there are a LOT of books that simply aren't available digitally!
My library currently purchases a book as an e-book if it's available. Guess what? We still purchase a lot in print.

Interestingly enough, the only exception to this is fuel oil.
Oil furnaces and boilers really haven’t suffered the cost reduction engineering the way gas appliances have. You can easily still get 30-40 years of operation out of them as long as someone is cleaning them every year or two and keeping things dialed in, not frequently running out of fuel which can get gunk in the nozzle and cause sooting etc.
