Grand Isle being closer to Burlington is really nice!! You have a ton of natural areas by the lake that are private- multiple state parks, land trusts. You’re closer to Montreal and can also quickly get to NY adirondacks if you want. Kids in Grand Isle have a choice between a few different high schools. Milton is your closest grocery store. The Milton rec department is an excellent resource as well!

Working in an elementary school, I can full-heartedly agree that students mental health is at a breaking point. But let's not forget about the educators who have to be on the front lines of this travesty. Discipline, in the traditional sense in schools, is impossible without reinforcement at home. I'm not fully placing blame on the lack of parenting, but the pandemic opened Pandora's Box

Eden is small, almost no cell service. 1h20mish from Burlington, Montpelier/Barre/Berlin. 15-20min from Morristown/Morrisville which is where you’ll find some small restaurants, two grocery stores, and some other essential places. 15-20minutes from Johnson and NVU/VSU campus. I don’t know much about Randolph but I’m assuming due to its general location it’s also a rural town, so if that’s something you like, Eden might be a good fit!

Thankfully I haven’t crossed this bridge yet, and a lot of stoves use universal parts for things like bricks, gaskets, etc. This is good to know. I’m not above fabricating stuff I need to work, but I prefer to use the OEM stuff

Throughout my early years at school we had a different principal for elementary, middle, and high school. When my class moved from elementary to middle school out principal followed us. When we moved from middle school to high school the high school principal literally had a mental breakdown a month into the year. Their solution was to have the middle school principal cover the high school as well.

So the job stress actually caused a principal to take a leave of absence due to mental health and their solution was doubling one guy’s workload. And this is the mindset of the people they had managing the children’s education.

So yeah… I’m so surprised kids mental health is at a breaking point.

Oh just saw you're interested in Local food. If you're in Newbury probably Hunger Mountain in Montpelier is your best bet. There are some good farm stands around but they are pretty seasonal. There's been an on again off again coop in St Johnsbury which right now seems off again. If you're in Eden, Morrisville Coop is your best bet, which is only a few years old but looks really nice (I stop there on my way up to my folks place in the NEK). The school situation is tough, in theory we have equalized funding from the state, but you still have to attract good teachers and the physical infrastructure is still dependent on local bonds a lot of the time. We have an amazing local school in Lincoln where I live but we've had to fight tooth and nail to keep it open.

Super helpful perspective, thank you! Re: schools, we were so jazzed before we moved here to hear about Vermont’s amazing public schools…but now we find ourselves paying 2x more property taxes than ever before and suffering schools that are dramatically more dismal than anything we encountered in the South…which is REALLY surprising. It seems like the applause about great public schools comes from a handful of exceptional places in the greater Stowe, Burlington, and Woodstock areas, and most everything else is average at best and failing at worst. So…we don’t have high hopes for good schools in any area we can reasonably afford. :/

A lot of zoning is in place to protect the environment. So when someone builds without going through the zoning process there's absolutely the possibility that they have created an environmental issue.

Now i had no idea that environmental court was a thing....but I imagine this is what they are getting at.

They always have a big beard too. I'll get downvoted but "beard culture" is a thing and IMO there's a huge correlation between insecure dudes and beards. Their beard becomes their identity. In this case he want his beard to say "I'm a really badass dude who probably is some sort of secret military hence my need for this testosterone infused beard of mine"

Fucking hate that Dan Bilzerian idolizing BS mindset. Deck yourself out in 5.11, grow a big bushy beard, wear a olive drab scarf around, and tell everyone you're a military contractor when in reality you're just a sad little boy in a meathead body, hiding behind your guns and "alpha" appearance.
