You keep trying to construct this strawman, that if only he looked different he would be applauded. But, no. It’s a bad idea, one that wouldn’t help. One that been tried and has failed.

Police reform is not some new idea, I have been reading books about it, listening to activists and progressive DA’s discuss these ideas for at least 20 years now. You clearly have not looked into this movement very closely and seem more interested in defending some strawman persecution fetish, but go read a book. Listen to a podcast, watch a documentary.

Park at any t station and take that into the city just make sure to double check the schedule because I've been stuck waiting long hours in the cold because I misread the day/direction of the commuter rail

I was born and raised in Vermont. My mom is from Long Island, and on my dads side i have an ancestor who is buried in Montpelier, died fighting in the Revolutionary War. To me, theres really no difference. Just a weird xenophobic sentiment shared among locals, it definitely stems from pride. Sure its annoying when massholes etc come up and drive like absolute maniacs but pretty much every state has that.

Something interesting I did hear from some coworkers at an old job, A LOT of native Vermonters leave but a decent amount of those end up coming back. I'm in my early 20s and planning to leave within the next few years, so we'll see what happens

I have a bunch of hand-canned vegetables from my late mom, I'm sure she'd be happy if I shared them with someone in need.

But again, if he was not a white male, if he was clearly an ally, the exact words could be used and Reddit would applaud.

Personally, it doesn’t make a difference in my life what a cop looks like. However, in a country where police brutality is commonplace and often framed as a racial issue, it doesn’t seem far fetched to suggest that the community should be policed by members of its community. And if that community is predominately black, maybe there would be some measurable benefit for a predominately black police force.

The sad trend is actually that people can’t share ideas casually without risk of social assassination. I think this dude is catching more flack for having the wrong identity than for the content of his idea.

There's FREE parking at the Encore Casino. You can grab a bite to eat there, or just tour the River Walk and then catch a water shuttle downtown. My favorite way to get into town when the weather is nice. Or catch an Uber downtown from there. It's guaranteed to be cheaper than parking downtown. Check to see if there are any hotel specials there too. I'm not a Casino person, but a friend of mine stayed there once and the room was very nice.

This is such a sad trend in American political discourse. Just because he didn’t say the word “segregation” doesn’t mean that not what he was talking about. He described segregation of police responsibilities based on assumed race of perpetrator and/or victim. These word games are so pathetic, such a waste of time.

Oh, and did I mention? Somebody just crushed our newspaper tube. My dear ol dh may get it fixed before the newsgroup comes with a new one. They said it’ll be months! Hey, at least we gave big snow coming. Lotsa good exercise (shoveling) & hopefully less drought this year.

My mom briefly worked as a postmaster. She left because they wanted her to start going to distribution centers and stuff and she just wanted to run the tiny little post office a few miles down the street from where she lived.
