If you are able to drive, I absolutely second the NEK. Willoughby is breathtaking, and the NEK is just a unique little section of VT. Parsons Corner in Barton is a good place for a nice foodie meal, and Parker Pie in West Glover has excellent localvore pizza and beer. If you are able to come after Memorial Day, the weather will be nicer and lots of hiking and biking trails open.

"When buying and selling is controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators."

I am continually amazed at the gullibility of the politically active, on both sides of the political spectrum.

The Balint campaign clearly was able to identify the source of the funds - yes, it "could have happened" some other way. But it didn't. I would posit that 99% of politicians are crooked, starting with the "slightly bent" at the local level, and rising up to "twisted like a pretzel" DC politicians. Balint is no different: she, like all successful politicians, wants to win. At all costs. Pay any price. Compromise any principles. "I don't think of it as selling out, I prefer Buying In."

By DC standards, normal politicians (and their staffers) are those that can be bought - corrupt politicians can only be rented.

Draw up the plan and surprise him with it on his birthday, but choose another month to actually celebrate his birthday with the trip. April here is ugly. It’s too cold to be comfortable, but too warm for snow. The plants haven’t started blooming yet so everything still looks bedraggled from surviving winter. Literally any other month is better (although November is pretty dismal and its only advantage is being on the front end of winter instead of the back). Late spring/early summer you will have to bathe in bug spray.

I don’t know that a train will get you where you want to go. There isn’t much in the way of trains here, and they go to populated areas. Probably should drive.

I hear a lot about Kingdom Trails for biking. Willoughby is close if you want to play around at a big lake and hike.

You can use Dark Site Finder to help find the best places for stargazing. (Cool-colored areas give you the best possibility for seeing the Milky Way, the cooler the better.)

I don‘t having any particular recommendations for restaurants. Variety and fancy places are going to be in populated areas, away from the stars, but you can find a place to go wherever you land if you aren’t picky.

Is that legal advice? If I rented you a car with a normal rental contract and then I got the car out for you and it had swastikas all over it, would you not have a basis to demand a car without swastikas or at least terminate the contract on that basis? I am not going to tell someone it is frivolous to try or at least make the demand.

(Still not legal advice).

I second this- Middlesex, moretown, and Montpelier are biking distance from the Amtrak station in Montpelier. There’s lots of hiking and trails around this area and breweries and restaurants in Montpelier and Waterbury area. You’ll definitely be able to see the stars if the sky is clear. I’m sure there’s AirBnBs around there too.

Unfortunately, this plan may be best suited in the summer or fall months. April is definitely one of the worst months here; that's why the majority of us try to go on vacation for April. Once the ski areas shut down for the season, restaurants typically will take a little break until warmer weather and things ramp up for the summer season. It's honestly just a really hard time to gauge here, mud, snow, rain repeat, bare trees, super cold nights. Unless are those the conditions you enjoy? idk I'm not trying to burst your bubble about April, I just want you to have the magical trip you are searching for but being realistic about the time of year.

I can promise you any month from June to October will give you the amazing trip you are searching for. Good luck with your planning! :)

Considering I know someone with a rental property that took two and a half years without getting a single payment to get those not paying their rent evicted while trying the legal way to just get them to pay their contracted rent for the house. I'm more inclined to think people that oppose fixing this crazy loophole in letting renters have a huge upper hand are gonna welch on their rent and don't deserve housing to begin with.

So my little garbage pail friend, everyone is asking about the terms of the lease, and if it is a single or multi unit building, and if it is in space leased exclusively to OP, because that is the actual reality upon which the answer to this question rests. Go pick the bright orange muppet pubes out from between your teeth you fucking orc.

Nothing stinks here at all from the perspective of the Balint campaign, regardless of your thoughts on her. Campaigns not only are under no obligation to investigate the motives or sources of random contributions from individuals, it can be potentially illegal for them to do so. The $26K donated via these personal contributions is a drop in the bucket compared to the funds donated to the Balint campaign by individual donors, let alone the very high number of people within and outside of Vermont who did so. Individual donors could have donated via PayPal to Balint's campaign through her website, using an unnamed PayPal account, as long as donations are below the threshold limit for campaign financing. This could have happened to Sanders or any other progressive candidate receiving many small donations from individuals through grassroot campaign fundraising. This is how campaign finance works, and the statements by her campaign manager were direct and sensible. There is a good argument that Balint isn't responsible for returning any of the FTX funds, legally speaking. But politically, they don't want to hold onto money if the DOJ concludes that the donor procured it through fraudulent means.

There is simply a (reasonable) bias that all politicians are inherently "crooked," so when applying that bias, it's easy to assume the worst despite no evidence to that effect.

Yeah — it's a tricky time of year, for sure. I'm not looking for dreamy so much as someplace with 1) a dark sky at night, should the weather be clear (oy) and 2) y'know — an ounce of variation in elevation, which RI simply does not have :(

You're really not answering the question:

Do you lease a house, where you are leasing the entire property?

Or is it a multi unit building where you are leasing your apartments individually, and the "common space" like entryways, stairwells, basement, yard is not exclusively yours?
