Well when we get to the parts about lobbying and all - it really paints a picture, but that's not the case here. In time there will be some lobbyist that will corrupt her and turn her into a DC pawn. Give it time.

I recently heard they ran out of funds because of the influx of remote workers moving here and applying for the incentive. They were also trying to figure out how to start funding for this program back up again. I have a feeling it has stalled since the state now has a housing shortage and probably other pressing issues to attend to.

Also a staffing shortage....which is ironic?

well that sucks.

then again - I've never been a fan of this program - too many of us folks here have been gouged on housing (yes I know it's not just a vermont problem). Just seems wrong to give money to folks moving here that are doing remote work, I get they need tax money, but we could make more tax money on making an investment on new exports from the state rather than importing folks that are bringing money in from other places.

It's not just the weather that's subpar in April, but the scenery too. Just a bunch of bare sticks and lots (and lots) of mud, if there isn't snow. The mud can get pretty bad, so much that cars can get stuck on dirt roads, so I can't imagine what that'd be like on a bike. There are also guidelines in place regarding hiking during mud season to protect the trails and vegetation.

The trip you're planning sounds lovely, really, but as others have said, if Vermont is the goal, it's better suited for a different month.

Expect nothing. I tried to go through the program in 2019 and they ghosted me for months only to tell me that they’d run out of funds long before my submission.

To be fair, that pretty much set the tone for living here. Getting ghosted and told “sorry, I can’t help you” after weekly check ins is pretty much the norm from state agencies, contractors, etc.

More and more, I'm starting to believe something that feels extra controversial: confessions should not be admissible in court, and it should not be possible to plead guilty. Reason being that there are just so many people who did not commit a crime, and yet end up confessing to it and/or pleading guilty, thus pointlessly ruining their lives.

When this happens, it's usually due to one of two main factors: either they entered an interrogation in good faith and succumbed to psychological pressure, or they were offered a plea deal that would only ruin their life a little bit.

The onus for proving guilt should fall entirely upon the state. Especially in this era where video evidence, DNA evidence, and extensively abundant meta data is readily accessible. It simply is not worth imprisoning innocent people for the sheer convenience of an expedited trial/sentencing.

Imo it was kind of a scam. I know people moved here and because their position didn't pay a certain amount in wages they were disqualified. Of course the wages Vermont wanted you to make were far above what most of the positions paid. But that was a couple years ago.

But it must work for some...

Remove the sign. It’s not legal but fuck landlords. They are leaches and nothing more.

This is no different than a plantation owner putting up an anti-abolition sign as far as I’m concerned. Do not respect landlords.
