God, bloated is such a perfect way to describe car shapes these days! I miss more angular shapes on vehicles. Every car nowadays looks like it could be posted on the @roundboys Instagram.

It would be great if you could get Tom Wessels to speak to the topic. The NHPR podcast Something Wild briefly addressed the topic a few years ago, and quoted him then https://www.nhpr.org/something-wild/2015-01-02/something-wild-stonewalls-as-landscape

Situation in pic should only happen in the rarest of cases.
The math doesn’t work out for a generator in most practical cases: 2200W Honda EU2200 has a 15a/120V connection. That’ll net ~1kW (4.5 mi) per hour. Much less if it’s cold as you also need to bleed power to keep the battery warm enough to charge.
Portable generator has zero practical use case for 99.99% of people’s daily usage. In an emergency or far-off grid situation? Maybe? But probably worth buying another few buckets of 5.56 for the prepper cave, lol.
If you’re driving enough that you need to recharge frequently, you’ll likely already have your own charger or know where a few extras or backups are if needed.
If you use the navigation, the car will yell at you about range or redirect you to charge if you won’t make it. If you’re anxious, charge early.
After 8mos and a cross-country road trip, I have no range anxiety. Anxiety about wall charging in sub-zero temps? Sure.
I agree: plates check out.

k.
Well there is a demand for a lot of things. I am sorry I did not draft a business plan or prospectus to submit to you to see how such and investment would play out. I am just a dude with a high school diploma - I am not an economist. I can tell you though that a services based economy is dog shit. Production is the only way.

Shouldn't the market demand these Vermont craft goods already if that's a viable path for economic growth? The state incentivizing it won't create more demand. If the demand isn't there I'm not sure what creating more supply will do.

I'd be all over that! Something the size of the old Toyota Tacoma before they got bloated.

doesn't have to be. but manufacturing jobs have a lot of personnel required for operations which means more jobs for regular folks.

I think enough people have pointed out that April isn't going to give you the ideal scenic excursion that you're looking for, and can be quite unpredictable with weather. So that being said, here's what I'd recommend:
Take Vermonter Amtrak to the Waterbury station. Explore Waterbury (amazing restaurants - Hen of the Wood, Prohibition Pig, plus Ben & Jerry's factory and Lake Champlain Chocolates factory) and then bike the 10 miles to Stowe. Again, more amazing foodie options in Stowe (Harrison's, Doc Ponds, Piecemeal Pies, etc.) plus Stowe has some of the best bike paths in Vermont, and cute Vermonty places like Cold Hollow Cider Mill, the Von Trapp Lodge, etc. If you want great views, perhaps hike up Mount Mansfield or take the Stowe gondola.
Or, take the Ethan Allen Express route to the Middlebury Amtrak station. Middlebury is a super cute college town with lots of food options and boutique shopping. From there I would bike the 19 miles to Brandon, which is a quintessential Vermont town that basically looks like Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls. There isn't a lot of entertainment, but there are a few great eateries (Cafe Provence), art galleries, gift shops, and really beautiful scenery. Lots of trails and parks, and will be a bit more affordable than Stowe.

I applied a few days after the program started up again last year, to hold my place in line. I sent in "I've moved" paperwork the day I got my first VT paycheck and was paid with a check a few weeks later. Very fast, imo.

Thanks for the information. Honestly, I’d be willing to wait a couple hours for the genny to get me out! When are they going to make a small electric pickup?

All my homies leave Vermont in April.
All jokes aside, you know what you’re getting into with April now. If you must come then, I second the Montpelier to Waterbury zone as the best train stop + bikeable terrain. There is an off-grid, bare bones Airbnb up on Scrabble Hill Rd in Duxbury, roughly an 8 mile muddy ride from the Waterbury station. Maybe it would fit your needs. And no I don’t own it, I’m just aware of it.

Technically, it would work. But...
to charge at a decent speed, you'd need a 50 amp 240 output, so not any tiny genrator. That will charge at about 30MPH.
If your generator only puts out 15-20 amps of 120v, you are looking at a charge rate of only 6mph. If you are stranded, yes better than nothing. Charge for a few hours and you may have what it takes to get to a charging station. But I wouldn't want to count on it often.
It sounds like something like the Bolt may fit your needs better. It has a gas engine that kicks in to charge the battery and/or run the car when the battery gets low. The batter is smaller, so only lasts for 25 miles or so I think, so for some people that is all they need for 'around town' driving.

My question was serious. I get your point, but I’m a “belt and suspenders” kind of guy. Do you see a real problem with keeping a small generator in the car? They make them with spill-proof/leak-proof tanks, and the weight is less than many other items I keep in my car already.

which is why we need to embolden production and incentivize manufacturing / craft goods exports. pretty much we just need to make shit and get it out there.

It was an idea cooked up by the State to increase tax revenue before the Covid immigration wave crashed on VT. Different times
