Wonder what the meaning of "Buffalo soldier" actually was/is. The 32 Battalion from the South African Defense Force way back in the 80s and 90s was infamous and badass, slaying commies and taking few casualties. Their insignia was a water Buffalo, and they were referred to as the Buffalo Soldiers. Clearly they aren't the Buffalo Soldiers Bob Marley sings about, and they aren't related to the guys in this post, yet they are all referenced as the Buffalo Soldiers. Anyone know the history behind that designation and/or whether it's just a coincidence they all have the same specific name?

I think you think you’re making a case to stop using fossil fuels, but in reality you’re making a case to continue using fossil fuels.

You’ve just proven a farmer could never match the work of his tractor by hiring extra farm hands or using animals.

The same for moving goods, conveying people, etc.

The solution to problems isn’t to radically eliminate whole sectors of products or expect people to radically change how they operate, it’s to displace a shitty tech with a superior and greener one.

100 something years ago the impending doom crisis was we didn’t have anywhere to put all the horse shit, and if people kept buying horses at the rate they were, we were a decade away from every populated city being 6 feet deep in horse shit. Attempts to make people walk and stop using buggy’s didn’t go anywhere. The automobile was invented and the problem evaporated.

10 years is not a large sample size, and the sample of bad years is even less. 2018-19 was one of the snowiest winters ever in VT, 19-20 was fairly average. Since then, we've had 3 bad snow years in a row. After 3 years of bad snow in Tahoe in the mid 2010s, people thought that the Sierra would never get a good snow year again and then they have gone on to break several snowfall records in recent years.

Gotcha. Yeah, Snow has a pretty cool one, I think. I've heard really great stuff about Pico and Magic, too. I usually ski in the north, though.... good luck. I've biked over Mount Snow and remember it being pretty accessible from anywhere on Route 9 or 100.

To be honest, we don't have an Epic or an Icon Pass, so that aspect doesn't matter much. My intentions were to get away without being too far from home (NW CT). Our local hill (Mohawk Mtn) doesn't have a park, so my kids are pulling for something fun to play in.
