And about the Catholic thing, I'm not religious and most of the time I honestly forgot it was a Catholic school, I ended up there because of the financial aid. Even the priests (the few that I ever interacted with) were openly accepting of lgbt students.

That's a realtor that's hired at a brokerage - not just some jackass off the street with a finished Randy Mayhew class and realestate license.

You want an Agent that has industry contacts and an ear to the ground - you need to go with an agent that is a member of a brokerage.

I went to St Mike's and graduated a few years ago. As a trans person, I was given freedom to choose which gender dorm I felt most comfortable living in. They've since added an option for LGBTQ+ housing which I've heard good things about but can't speak to personally. When I went there, the administration wasn't very vocal about their support for the lgbt community which was frustrating at times but there were so many faculty and staff who were openly queer and very supportive of students. I transitioned as a sophomore and never had any issues with the school or other students, always felt very safe there.

Well unless you're using someone from 72 sold, you're likely not going to get much good recon on the market. From what I understand they are going to be signing some new sellers soon.

If the OP is bidding on houses in Stowe, they are doing ok on the cash front and most likely have their finances sorted. Hiring a realtor, a professional who’s job and career peer connections is to know all the info the OP asked, is the right move. Additionally, an experienced realtor will know of properties before the come to market.

Just jumping on this to say I’ve been trying to buy a house in the Middlebury school district for over a year. There are, I think, 4 houses currently for sale in that area, one over a million dollars. Good luck to anyone trying to get into that market, it’s incredibly cutthroat.

Yeah, there’s simply nothing to buy. We’ve been hoping to sell and move closer to town for over a year now. I watch Zillow like a hawk and have a realtor on standby. Nothing is being sold. It’s the absolute worst possible time to buy a house in this state.

It sucks that if they upgraded their cameras you would of had this guy in the bag. I’ve seen systems where you can zoom in and figure out someone’s eye color. I was so mad to see the truck photo yet the camera can’t read the plate. I’ll keep an eye out for him and that truck. I hope the police get back to you with something.

Now I'm not familiar with this project but I am familiar with tax stabilization and, if used properly, it can be an economic driver. I do know Poultney well as I grew up just outside of it and my dad had/has (moved the office to his house) a business there for 45 years. They were also one of our sports rivals and two of my high school girlfriends went there. When I grew up (80s) Poultney was a nice college/working class town. The slate mills were making money as were the farmers. That time has past, much like granite in Barre and marble in Proctor. What needs to happen is some sort of injection of money, quality, marketing, etc. - basically a coordinated effort by the community with an eye on what change can happen, what is good for the town, what is realistic and then a plan to implement. It's a shame that the Town of Poultney didn't buy the college as they could then control what happened to different buildings/sections of the campus but I'm guessing there was no stomach for the kind of debt they would be taking on. All that said, good luck whatever way the town goes as it would be nice to see such a pretty town grow.

Last point. When the Select Board or Selectboard (different towns spell it differently) goes into Executive Session, they need to be specific and transparent - there are rules. Whether this youngster is accurate in his assessment that nefarious dealing are afoot, it's my opinion that raging against the machine, as it were, will garner less votes than calm, political discourse. Poultney's an old town - WAY older than I was around - and old people vote. Best for him to put on a tie and go door to door touting his positions.

If you want Montpelier schools, affordable housing with a couple of acres and close to Barre, take a look at Roxbury. Not a walkable downtown, but if cost is an issue, you'll have to make some concessions.

Bit of a drive, but Middlebury. Nice college town with walkable downtown, international baccalaureate middle and high school, fantastic amenities for kids all within walking distance (ice rink, pool, rec center, music center, movie theater, restaurants, library, hospital etc.). Close to snow bowl, loads of hikes. Tight and expensive market, but much better ROI in respect to kids than many other towns.

I went to St Mike's in the '90s and found the faculty and student body generally supportive of LGBTQ people. It's a much smaller community than UVM and everyone lives on campus so there's a lot less anonymity for people to hide behind and be dicks.

That said, I'm straight so I don't have any real first hand experience, but I wouldn't let the Catholic thing bother you.

Have you looked into Champlain College also?

Williamstown or Northfield. The Paine Mountain School District is great, Northfield has a fun, small downtown, and Williamstown provides more open space [edit] for home construction[/edit].

I live in Williamstown - been here for almost 31 years. It's been a great fit for the family and me. Daughter is putting up a new home just up the road from my place.
