I just escaped Atlanta to move to Vermont for many, many reasons, but the lawlessness of the law was high up on the list. So many POC friends and coworkers with horror stories - can't carry a purse into stores, don't wear thick jackets, you have to buy something or you're accused of shoplifting and can be at risk for being frisked.

It was both cathartic and infuriating for my white-ass brother, who always love to be a centrist, got pulled over driving from CA to GA with his dog for our fathers surgery. Cop saw CA plates and dollars in his eyes, unlawfully put my brother in the backseat with no probable cause, and searched the car over while his anxiety-ridden dog lost it without his favorite person. All for that sweet civil forfeiture.

Atlanta cops fucking suck - reading the police blotter in VT almost makes me want to cry.

There is a lot wrong with cop city but these clown protestors can suck an egg as well. I read the article then looked for facts. Most contradict the claims laid out. There is no mass displacement no ones homes are being taking etc. etc.. Plenty to be pissed about but stick to facts and no all 380 acres wont be developed either. And close womens prisions?? What?? Guess what Jayna some of you women are foul murderous creatures that belong behind bars. Sorry but your vagina does not equal a get out of jail free card. And you expect people to take any of this seriously? And I shouldn't say woke about this either right??

You can also watch the State Vtrans job boards. My grandfather retired from the AOT plowing roads after many years and he got a lot of fulfillment from his service to the State. Hats off to you and all the other plow drivers out there - lot of late nights, early mornings, and important work.

There are currently sign on and retention bonuses: https://vtrans.vermont.gov/aot-recruitment

Thank you.

Northernmost New England would be my thing. I thrive in cold weather, plow snow for a town, love scrounging free wood for my stove and fatbike all winter. From what I can tell, that all kinds works up there.

I've lived in eastern PA for 50 years and am watching it get paved over and I need out eventually.

Maine and VT are two states without billboards in the continental US. I recommend checking upstate Maine out as well.

There are also jobs available - you just have to search on the town websites. Generally in VT, salaries don’t often align with the cost of living - just a fair warning. Here’s an example from Lyndon: https://www.lyndonvt.org/job-opportunities

Better off without it!

I like playing the lottery sometimes but some states they went to the next level and it is everywhere trying to get as much money as possible.

If you played 1 drawing for each drawing game where I live every week , it would cost 73 bucks.

You know it’s like hey buddy over saturating the market a bit there …. I like some chance but it’s easy to fall to deep into that .

From spending a lot of time in BF and talking to people, they've always said that was a rumor spread by homophobic people. Bellows Falls used to be the safe place for LGBTQIA+ people in rural Vermont to be out due to places like Andrews Inn in the 70s and 80s, when Brattleboro was far more unwelcoming. It's why the town is still referred to by some as Fellows Balls.
