Central Vermont Dental Care got me in when I needed an emergency extraction of wisdom teeth immediately postpartum. They were lovely, quick, and kind about everything. Highly recommend!

Bennington doesn't have much going for it although it has a lot of potential given its location. Cottage industry only goes so far. You need a diversified economy for things to thrive.

Investment coming in will provide employment opportunities for local residents. You can bash it for catering to out of Towners if you want, but I'm not sure what this sub would consider to be a good alternative to help the local economy considering there are so many examples of small towns in VT being supported by out of state tourism.

What about all the ski areas that attract lots of out of Towners that keep folks in small towns employed during the winter months? Are you going to bash those people visiting and spending tourism dollars because they don't have in-state residency? Having a tourism draw has been a strong economic force in helping support local economies, especially in Vermont. I'm not sure there's a better alternative. You need investment for things to improve.

True but unfortunately Vermont leaders are still stuck in the old school view of "they are here out of the kindness of their hearts. They don't need us we need them they will just leave if we tax them fairly"

Obviously this isn't true for the tourism industry. But unfortunately a lot of Vermont tends to be nieave in that way.

Well, as the sea levels rise and people continue to obsess over growth and ignore what scientists are screaming about…we can examine what ecosystems to disrupt to put up billboards in the name of growth.

Continuing to follow the path we’ve been on as a collective species is just a path of insanity, arrogance, and ultimately destruction.

I asked the same question and got downvoted.

Our society is self-obsessed, and output-obsessed.

Year-over-year growth is bad for the planet. We can’t just keep growing and expect the planet to sustain our “way of life.”

It’s neocapitalist bullshit.

Ethical capitalism is possible, and we need not be obsessed with growth.

I grew up in Vermont and now live in central New York state. I've started looking for a house out here and I check the Vermont real estate market occasionally to see what prices are. It's ridiculous and will only get more so unless more housing gets built.

So yes, Vermont needs to grow. Or else the population will drop as no one will be able to afford to live there.

I mean Vermonters unfortunately are raised to feel the need to "roll out the red carpet" for these things. Even being raised by pretty left wing parents. The opinion was always. "This wouldn't be good anywhere else, but this is vermont we NEED the jobs/ money / economy". That sentiment unfortunately is deep rooted in many people here. "We need jobs at all cost just build whatever and sign whatever deal we can we need this". This is how we ended up with the pits. And the jay scam.

This would have to be a private excursion-charter service like they have in Europe (for instance there's a weekly sleeper from the Netherlands to the Alps in winter which isn't a regular scheduled service and isn't run by a normal operator).

Sadly I think the financial and regulation environment in the US make it impractical to run something like that at a price people would pay.
