Reply to Vermont should have a 4 day work week by hunny_bun_24
I like the spirit of the idea. I think we should all be working less. But I have yet to see a good answer to how this will be handled for hourly workers. No employer is just going to give their hourly workers a 25% increase in pay to offset the reduced hours.

While I would personally love a four day work week, there's are issues around this that make me think that this has to be done at least nationwide.
Lots of people here work for companies that are from out of state. The people that manage those companies may not agree with this (whether justified or not, that's not the issue). That would mean those companies might avoid hiring people in Vermont and might avoid having offices or facilities in Vermont.

This winter has brought out some old favorites, like Catan, Ticket To Ride, Yahtzee and Uno.
Newer ones in the rotation recently, Ramen Fury, Slamwich, and Strain.

Of course not! Being snowed-in is optional for a Vermonter!

No board games for me nowadays. Books & internet to read, views to paint from my windows, friends to call, tons more to do. Go out well clad & tromp around in the snow; when it stops, shovel some. Yrs ago though: chess, checkers, monopoly, and a kid-game I can’t recall…

Root is a ton of fun for the right group (it's kind of heavy). For something lighter I like Everdell, Boss Monster, or Flamecraft.

Also if you're reading this and into board games and live in the Rochester area hit me up!

If you haven't already, skim over the census (https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1810731) for a few towns. You can just search for "town, Vermont", click on any of the people, then go into the actual census image and go between pages.
The census usually goes right down the street with the census worker walking door to door, so you can get an idea of if you were just walking through the town, how many people are living together as a family, how many renters/boarders are there, how many families are Vermonters or how many moved from NH or Mass, how many people are working in what trades or professions, how many people were in the war.
It's a lot of basic demographic stuff you can look at as a case study of one town in a few minutes, that would tell you if you were going to use this town as a model, who would be all the characters who realistically fit in.
You can also look up vital records of these people, which will tell you things like, when someone dies, where is the doctor they would've gone to, what is the cause of death, where are people being born (home/hospital), where are people getting married and are their spouses from this town or further away.
