Significantly underpaid. Why live/work in VT when there’s no affordable housing and the pay is half of what neighboring states offer? The state economy is going to implode because workers can’t afford to live here.

It’s a crisis because Corporate landlords are buying up all the housing with their stolen PPP money, evicting tenants, and then doubling or tripling the rent. That’s assuming they don’t just turn it into short term rentals.

Clinicians and Counselors make between ~$33,000 and ~$60,000 in Vermont. Pay is uncompetitive and housing is either unaffordable or nonexistent.

Bottom line is that Mental Health Workers can’t find affordable housing in the state of Vermont. The explosion in corporate landlords and short term rentals is crippling the state’s workforce.

That is a bug for many of us not a feature. If you know how anti ABnB we are then you prob. ought to know that too by now.

It is perfectly fitting for a chapel to be linked to both Eugenics and Republicans. I dont think the name should be changed at all, these places shouldnt be whitewashed nor should the history and people tied to them be.

Absolutely. That is a safety issue. Hand brake repairs/replacements are usually pretty cheap.

Isn’t this no different than soda bottles which have corporate HQ info and also which bottling plant it was produced at? If the packaging changed recently it was probably in response to a law right? Definitely serves customers in general to know which country the parent company resides in.

this might be a dumb question, but how and why would they ship it all the way the Netherlands? was the carton itself the thing made in the Netherlands? I’m not thinking straight I’m high lol

What I would like to also know is why Ben and Jerry's is half the price in Montana when Vermont has a factory right here.

Yes, as it should be. I like other people to have functioning brakes at least as much as like having them on my own car.

Can you tell me in what way a private individual suing a private institution from changing the names of one of its buildings is acting in good faith? Because I don’t really understand what legal standing he would have to do this? It seems like just a lawsuit designed to stoke public outrage and score political points more than anything else.
Facts of Mead’s life aside. It wouldn’t seem to matter to me either way. It seems like a pretty frivolous lawsuit.

HC should be cleaned out top to bottom. Used to work there and it is the quintessential big fish in a small pond — incredibly poorly managed and directly benefitting from the coverage friends in high places (a la ppl on the board, etc) give it.

Jim and Scott going out of their way to endorse John Klar in 2022 put another nail in the "VT Republican" coffin.

As much as this sub pushes away people from moving here, there are chances for people to move here successfully. To better understand the area, try to visit some time in mid spring or late fall to see the worst of the seasons. There's a big difference between the sun of Italy and the cloudy dull weather that's prevalent here.
Job listings are plentiful online for restaurant workers, and that same shortage makes it difficult for small business owners to keep their businesses open. You can use the pay information you find to budget out what you can afford for housing (should be no more than 1/3rd your monthly take home pay), heating costs for 6-7 months, health care (you're fully on your own for insurance in most restaurant jobs) through the exchanges, car + insurance + gas (which will be significantly cheaper than what you pay), an extra set of winter clothing and gear, services like water and sewer and trash collection, and groceries. Once you have that budget number, you can search around for available housing onliine, which you'll find is limited and more expensive than many US cities. That will be your reality check.
It's not impossible to survive and thrive here, but it's more difficult than many parts of the country. The lower the pay you take in, the harder it will be. A Sicilian restaurant that puts out consistent, authentic, quality food would do well here, either in the larger areas or the rural towns that have no real food options. My local pizza place started in our small town 30 minutes of Burlington, and they've grown to 3 locations that all seem to do a brisk business.
