I can assure you any bitterness you're gleaning from my post is entirely in your head. And I simply don't think you truly believe making a major motion picture and creating a painting are at all equatable to each other.
If there were only fifty painters creating art and they were each paid millions upon millions of dollars and the access to paint and brushes were prohibitively expensive and the paintings themselves were sponsored and edited by corporations I would understand your point.
Kids today want fame and celebrity due entirely to the culture of celebrity and wealth worship propagated by the out of touch people in the original video. This life is simply unachievable.

While you’re not at all wrong about the over importance placed on celebrity culture as a whole, maybe you should look inward and ask yourself why you’re so bitter about it?
You can distill any art down to sound useless with that lens.
“A painter contributes nothing to society but the brief second of enjoyment while you look at some colors on a canvas”
“A musician contributes nothing to society but 3 minutes of escapism while you enjoy the sounds they made”
Also I don’t really understand one of your last points, in what way are actors “decreasing opportunities for society to offer to achieve greatness?”
People admire artists and a natural consequence of acting is that people are going to recognize you more than they would in a less forward facing medium.

I wish we could collectively agree as a society to stop paying attention to actors and celebrities. It's the most self aggrandizing, overpaid, brainless work a person could hope to do.
These people provide nothing of value to society apart from the brief moment of escapism you experience while watching a movie. They contribute wildly to the increasing expectation of "greatness" and decreasing opportunity society offers to achieve that "greatness"
But they'll sit around patting themselves on the backs for accomplishing nothing of value whatsoever. Despicable.

The most tragic thing about Philip Seymour Hoffman being dead is that the world never got to see him in a Wally Backman biopic.

Honestly don’t know. Umpires can be known to go on power trips from time to time and think everyone is there to see them. But in this case I don’t know the backstory.

As someone with no more than a passing understanding of baseball, was Wally within his rights to do what he did, prior to throwing the bats and balls on the field? Was the umpire being a dick?

If you haven’t seen it, the entire “Playing for Peanuts” documentary (where this vid comes from) is pure solid gold. Wally is amazing.

The article itself states: "The suspension though is not Backman's actions on the field after his ejection in the eighth innning of Tuesday's game in Anderson.
But for his confrontation with Anderson's radio play-by-play announcer and general manager in the press box after the game."
So yes, hope so...

Reddit loves shitting being cynical and ragging on religion, but it is nice having a guy who sets the agenda for a billion followers say stuff that makes them more likely to be inclusive and compassionate. Hasn’t always been the case with Catholics and we shouldn’t take it for granted.
