Solutions to car break-ins?

I’m sure this will either a) be downvoted to oblivion for assumed political views or b) unproductive but I’m genuinely curious for serious solutions:

What’s something we can do to at least slow down or slightly prevent the car/window break ins?

I literally watched two today on 9th street in the middle of the day with people walking by; I had mine broken into twice when I moved here originally. I see a new one on our block almost every day. Do we just keep filing reports and hope DCPD ups surveillance of the area?

edit: I always keep car empty, if not looking dilapidated on the outside as well :)
