Yeah, that's a lot of NATO to get through first. And a host of NATO countries that putting it mildly the vast majority of the citizenry view Russia about equal to dog shit on their shoes.

Except AUKUS isn't a defensive pact, it's a treaty to formalize joint R&D on multiple cutting edge projects...
Only history repeating here I see, is people talking about something they obviously don't understand, as though they're the authoritative source on the subject

The goal is quite simple: Stop Russia from invading sovereign states like Ukraine, Georgia, Chechnya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and many more.
We live in a time where invading each other is not needed- this war, along with admittedly many others from the West as well, isn’t necessary

Kinda gross.
News editors used to vett for accuracy. Now they are in charge of putting out the most clickbaity headlines they possibly can.
It's fucking shitty.

There are sanctions covering some types of semiconductor manufacturing equipment (i.e. machines that make ICs). We aren't preventing trade of finished semiconductor products; that would be a massive escalation.

AUKUS isn't a NATO treaty. It's an information sharing and joint cutting edge military R&D treaty.
-
Nuclear submarine designs
-
Hypersonic missiles
-
AI
-
Cybersecurity
-
Loyal wingman UAVs
They're all joint programs under AUKUS.

Issues with that;
-
US will not allow Canada to share nuclear submarine designs until it accepts the NW Passage as an international strait, same as Malacca or Hormuz. It's why the Canada Class nuclear submarine was vetoed by the US
-
Canada unfortunately doesn't offer anything. It's not even a factor in hypersonics, advanced AI, loyal wingman UAVs, etc, and it criminally underfunds its military, particularly R&D. So not bringing any knowledge, and not bringing any funding. It's in effect, being a free rider.
-
Canada has not joined the US, UK, Australia, and Japan in recognizing China as a threat to security. Hell, the Canadian military is still doing research studies with the Chinese government. When the crux of AUKUS is looking square at China, Canada is not a great ally on that front.
-
Canadian political leadership have openly stated they have no desire to join AUKUS, even though their military leadership is screaming for it. Same as when the military leadership was begging for the F-35, but was told "no, the Minister of Fisheries will decide what fighter jet the military gets".

Reply to comment by scottguest67 in Armenia tells World Court Azerbaijan blockade is 'ethnic cleansing' by DavidofSasun
Because screaming genocide at everything detracts from the credibility of the person doing the screaming.
In the last 10 or so years the conflict has cost about 4000 Armenian lives and 3000 Azerbaijani lives. For comparison, Russia loses that many troops in a week in Ukraine, inflicting similar casualties on the Ukrainian side. Most of these, by the way, were troops.
It would be silly to call this genocide. If you did, is 9/11 genocide? Similar losses by numbers and all civilians, so why not, right?
You see this with the Israeli Palestinian issue. People talk about "slow motion" genocide because they can't defend the actual genocide accusation either.
For it to be genocide you have to demonstrate someone is trying to wipe out a group of people or a portion of it. What happened to the yazidis with Isis was genocide. What happened in the 20th century in Armenia was genocide. What happened between the tutus and the hutsis was genocide. If we throw in every conflict where 4000 soldiers die and call that a genocide too, we devalue the term - same as calling every teacher you dislike a nazi.
I suspect Armenia, of all countries, knows what a genocide is and how it happens. They're not looking to devalue something they're still fighting to have recognized.
Source: Armenian roots. Azerbaijan can fuck right off, in case anyone is wondering what team I play for.

Whenever Israel gets attacked they always pretend they have no idea why it happened. Terrorism is always wrong and evil, but explaining why it happens is not the same as excusing it. If they stopped stealing Palestinian land by settling the west bank it would lower tensions in the region.

Sounds like US could broker deals in which NATO gear is sent to countries that have soviet gear on condition they send their soviet gear to Ukraine.

This is bigger than Trudeau, as much as I'm not fond of the man's politics. We've been delinquents since at least Trudeau Snr, however one could argue it started with Lester Pearson. Blue party bad, red party bad is one of the reasons our country is sliding to non-seriousness and mediocrity in all things.

There's already an arms race with China though so if India stays with Russian designs it will be increasingly outclassed
Russia itself is going to have to choose sooner than it would like whether to become dependent on China or the West for key systems. The way it is going, they will depend on China as they cannot make modern tanks or aircraft in sufficient numbers - their next gen T-14 tank and Su-57 aircraft are just prototypes and already behind what US and China have in quantity.

What's to stop then just replacing the leadership of those companies and just doing it again?
Shouldn't China itself be sanctioned for reselling computer chips to russia?
I'd think it should be the responsibility of each nation to make sure their citizens don't break international rules/sanctions, but hey, i'm no expert.
