1: Initiative is not "overwhelming"

2: Not known if remaining defensive is a conscious strategic choice while they are waiting for spring and the new hardware it brings. That is of course highly speculative.

But it does seem like positive movements map wise has been going the Russian way lately. No argument there. The less obvious part is whether that has come at a sustainable cost.

They don’t have to go. There’s no legal penalty in Russian criminal code for refusing to be drafted as a part of Putin’s “partial mobilization”. It doesn’t have the legal status of mandatory conscription, all of those people could just stay home with no repercussions, this is a fact, look it up.

What has that to do with my question?

If some country attacks Finland today, Sweden will help them.

If some country attacks Sweden today, Finland will help them.

That will not change if only one of them (Finland) joins NATO. What will change is what other countries would join the fight if the one which joins NATO is attacked.

Of course, Finland can decide whatever they want, but it doesn't make it automatically a wise decision. Any country is free to shoot itself on the foot if they want (see Brexit).

The one thing that has me worried atm is that has been a while since we have had a significant Ukrainian positive movement on the fronts. As far as I can tell.
Now, that might VERY well be due to deliberate strategic decisions of just hanging on the ropes over winter and let the Russians punch themselves tired.
Still has me somewhat worried that the Russians with their more concentrated strategy of pushing flesh at the dam until it breaks might have found a way to prevent the Ukrainians from overloading the Ukrainian ability to cover the front AND maintain offensive capabilities.

At which point it becomes speculation about the sustainability of the Russian strategy.

But I sincerely hope that it is just me being overly worried. And that they new NATO hardware arrives sooner rather than later.

I don't care if he burns one, feel free.

But yeah I kinda doubt he'd be able to get his hands on one.

Aside from the expense itself, the people who make those aren't going to make one for someone intending to destroy it. The people who have them aren't the type who will hand then over either.

And you obviously can't steal one or buy one that's stolen, as that would actually be a crime.

So I'm fairly curious where he was going to get one from.

The knowledge I gained from all of that is that the United States is a regional bully and we as Canadians are doing the best thing we can do which is flip them the bird, geopolitically speaking. Goes in line with our passive-aggressive identity and actually makes me proud.

I think you are vastly underestimating the historical ties between Finland and Sweden. Swedens draft of soldiers to support Finland in WW2 under the slogan "Finlands cause is yours" and the military alliance since is something you might disregard if look at the world as a game of Risk. But locally its a different story.

This was reported like the Torah burning was banned by Swedish authorities. That false information was further used to accuse Sweden of bias and hypocrisy.

As the article says, it was dialogue between the man who planned to burn the Torah and other Muslims what made the man change his mind. Authorities didn't stop him and he would've gotten a permission for his demonstration.
