The fight for the Amazon is a regional conflict.

He wants help from Europe but isn't willing to help Europe. Which is not only hypocrisy but short sighted.

The Ukraine War has major ripples that negatively impact Brazilians. Just like deforestation in the Amazon has ripple effects that negatively impact Europe.

The nuclear subs from US/UK are a better choice even the ALP agreed with that. French subs are rubbish, now the conventional builds may have been taking so long and costing so much because of a modification but they knew they were making modifications and so were over budget and behind schedule even after taking all that into account

As a Finn I'd rather we not join if the absurd reasoning from Turkey wins out. It would feel like a betrayal of our values, and of Nordic camaraderie. It would also be proof that NATO is fundamentally flawed.

There's also no guarantee that they won't instantly flip and start the exact same shit the instant we 'abandon' Sweden. I'd actually assume it would happen considering their track record the past year.

Just take universal healthcare for example. In the US it's a contentious issue that's only really being pushed by the "fringe" democrats, and ignored by the rest of the party as well as the Republicans. Meanwhile in places like Australia and most of Europe it's so mainstream that as much as the right doesn't like it, they don't dare to overtly touch it because it would be political suicide.

This news prompted me to look up US stats. Apparently there have been 15,000 deaths in the past month. Ofc, Japan now has more deaths/capita but it just goes to show how the pandemic is still very much alive but as long we are not locked down and the media doesn't talk about it, it is like an alternate reality.

Had no lockdowns been instituted in the first place, perhaps there wouldn't have been any need for that much of an economic hit and the debt fuelled stimulus spendings.

I'll go you one better. I worked short contracts for a state government during part of the period they looked at. I wasn't working consistently, and only claimed what I was entitled to when not working, but of course the averaging process triggered for me because my annual income was over the threshold. But it had been so long between then and when I got my robodebt notice that the government's pay system had changed, and they literally would not accept the only records the state government was able to provide from their old system.

I ended up in a standoff with them and their debt collectors for years, with them knowing perfectly well I hadn't claimed anything I wasn't entitled to, but the system not accepting the evidence. They'd put it on hold, and then it would come off hold after a couple of months and trigger another wave of debt collectors and I'd have to start arguing it all over again. I spent hundreds of hours defending myself, and it only went away after the court cases.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 91%. (I'm a bot)

> The security situation has deteriorated rapidly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the province neighbouring Afghanistan, as the Pakistan Taliban have carried out almost a dozen deadly attacks targeting police and military posts.

> The seemingly uncontrollable resurgence of the TTP in Pakistan had been forewarned by many observers since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in August 2020, after they seized control from the US-backed government and imposed brutal Islamic rule on the country.

> Promises by the Afghan Taliban not to shelter TTP fighters proved hollow and the relationship between the Pakistan government and the Taliban began to break down.
