I don't like using sports to make political statements. One of the virtues of sport is it's ability to put aside the politics and allow countries to interact/compete on positive terms.

Unless the athletes in question are openly supporting an open conflict, then it seems unfair to punish individuals for what their government is doing.

If flags/countries are banned from sports, it needs to be done consistently and not just for western interests. Eg. Why wasn't the US flag banned during the invasion of Iraq or Afghanistan?

Yes, of course!

First, you are already covered by the EU mutual defense pact, which people tend to dismiss very easily. It's not like article 5 of NATO automatically puts all NATO armed forces under a single command, individual countries still can decide on their own what specific resources they would commit. I do not doubt that the most powerful military forces in the EU would treat an attack on Sweden as seriously as an attack on a NATO member. And most probably others like the UK and the US would also help.

Second, I'm in favor of signing any new bilateral or multilateral military treaties that would deal with Sweden's security concerns. Accepting only Finland in NATO shouldn't be a fuck you to Sweden, it should be a fuck you to Turkey.

By applying for NATO, Sweden has already signaled that they don't want to remain a neutral country, so that opens the door to any new military alliance.

Edit: Changed Article 7 to Article 5.

Really? You should tell that to the engineers who invented the FLiBe blanket, specifically designed to capture the neutrons "flooding out" and turn them into useful tritium to feed back into the fusion cycle, while also protecting the rest of the fusion reactor vessel.

If mask mandates and social distancing were enforced with no lockdowns, would the situation really be that much worse?

Vaccines would have eventually come out too.

Ultimately, politicians saw other countries locking down and FOMO'd. If I rememeber the head of the swedish public health authority pretty much reached this conclusion and he and the govenrment were attacked by panicky folks.

For those of us who wfh, the impact of the lockdowns may not seem like much. But there are many people whose lives and small businesses have forever been impacted by them. I seriously don't think any government would want to lockdown over any pandemic in future after this.

> In an interview with the daily French newspaper Le Figaro on Friday, the Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called on Paris to help train its pilots on French planes.

> "I've heard many experts speak highly of French planes and their pilots. I would naturally be very happy if Ukrainian pilots can be trained to fly French planes and put this expertise towards securing victory," he said.

> For Gassilloud, a decision to train Ukrainian pilots on French fighter jets would only make sense if the government followed up with a decision to donate planes.

They definitely have plenty more, but one thing to keep in mind is that Machu Picchu is considered one of the seven “new” wonders of the world (I know it’s a biased system and there are so many hundreds to thousands of wonders of old and new world) I’d keep riding that 1/7 wave till I couldn’t anymore too, I can understand it from their view too in an odd way Just my outsider view

That's my point. It's not, but it could be.

And physics is still very much of concern here. Engineering solutions are great but at the end of the day we need a better fundamental understanding of particle behavior if we are to make it sustainable. Right now no amount of engineering alone is going to overcome the problem of neutrons rapidly destroying equipment when they start pouring out of the fusion reaction.

However difficult these problems are, if the world wasn't stuck in a status quo of exploitation and war posturing, it would certainly make the job easier.
