> Ukraine can't do that if they want to maintain their sovereignty, Russia can do that while maintaining their sovereignty.
Well, they aren't equally situated in the situation that you're trying to resolve. Apples and oranges. You're mixing up what's happening and what you find justifiable. If your plan is to keep telling Putin to end the war - it doesn't seem very productive.
> How would it be an unpopular quagmire?
The way it is now, Ukraine is getting support without Americans and allies suffering casualties or spending too much. Ukraine is basically getting surplus equipment. Escalating that can make things less popular, and make the war seem more necessary from the Russian perspective.
> The reason that NATO troops aren't in Ukraine is that they don't want to potentially trigger MAD, that's it.
So why are they supporting Ukraine at all then? Did anyone told them that there's zero risk of triggering MAD? They probably made a calculation that the risk is low enough. So they can keep escalating things little by little.

You mean more rights to those making money. Slave workers stayed slaving. The same issue has been going on in China since the beginning. Let's be real. Only difference is that a lot of people got really rich. If you were making pennies per day before you didn't get any more rights

It’s a bullshit talking point nobody with two brain cells would believe.
This idea that words could have prevented the Russian invasion is literally Russian propaganda.

Canadian company Nortel used to be a major manufacturer in telecommunications equipment until their downfall in the early 2000's with allegation's of corporate espionage coupled with being hacked.
A former security advisor had this to say about the events that happend:
> Shields alleged that the hacking may have benefited Chinese competitors such as Huawei. While unable to offer conclusive proof Shields stated that "When 2000 came along, then it was a downward slide. And that coincidentally is the year when Huawei started selling on the international market. How coincidental." - Nortel Wikipedia
20 years later the Government of Canada turned down a major deal for a 5G network built by Huawei due to national security concerns.

So if Italy goes to war with Russia, Israel will cease to supply them weapons? Or worse, ban them from using the weapons they already bought in order to maintain its “gold standard”? Why would anyone purchase Israeli weapons under this absurd logic. The real answer is that Israel has decided helping Ukraine isn’t worth antagonizing Russia

How are Sweden supposed to do that with a target on us, exactly? Russia might just say we will nuke you and be done with it. Sweden would be forced to close transportation for nato and just accept the target is there and we have no way of participating since we are outside Nato with guns pointed at us. Would that country not have to look out for themself in that situation? What if there comes a new government who says differently? If you weren't so blind you would see the next best thing for Russia is that finland joins and Sweden doesn't. This is their goal now and it seems like it's working. You really think solidarity matters when you are on your own with a target on you? Ofcourse we wont and cant do much in that situation with a target on us.
That's what would happen and it's amazing people can't use logic anymore.

The opposition isn't in support of it either, so the even if he loses the election the situation won't change drastically. Sweden supporting the YPG is a much bigger deal for the nationalist opposition even.

Yeah this is pretty weird to me. Maybe focus on what Russians are doing there. The Ukrainians really don’t want to be mining their own country.

Legalize/decriminalize and regulate quality and age access (like everyone already does with alchohol, tobacco, and now marijuana).
Adults have the right to do whatever they want to their own bodies, just not to all the rest of us, of course. It is, after all, the very meaning of being an adult, right?

Reply to comment by VVhaleBiologist in Ukraine’s Zelensky rejects neutrality in sport at time of war by metrometro45
>.. during a time where it’s actions has been deemed unacceptable
The main problem is there are people who think that their views on what actions are acceptable should be taken into account by sports organizations, whose activity is regulated by other norms.
If these people would be able to at least imagine that they do not have unquestionable authority in all the matters in the world. They would appeal to specific norms regulating the activities of these organizations. Or they would try to introduce such a norms.
With very little effect, I suppose. Because most of sports organizations were originally formed, made a success and are functioning on the principles of maximum inclusiveness and a neutral attitude towards any political or military conflict.
The second more or less fair option would be to create a new organisation "for good participants only", and to check, how many people would follow such an initiative.
And the third reasonable idea is to fuck off and don't force to pick sides those who doesn't want to. Neutrality is not that insane wish, after all, do you know? If you want to boycott something - turn off TV and don't watch it, what's a problem? Nobody would give a fuck.
Overall, in my opinion, all this "let's ban Russia everywhere" hysteria is really disgusting. The Russian government doesn't even need to do anything to look like a better side in this issues.
P.S. I'm Russian, if that's important.
