I hate this thing where people hedge their criticism of Iran or some other awful place by also criticizing the west.

It's like someone reading about people starving half the world away and saying "starving there, too much unhealthy fast food making people overweight here. Wow nutrition really is a huge problem everywhere huh."

Criminalizing self harm has always been wrong.

I get self harm extends outward when it gets big enough and then it’s a social concern.

So only criminalize to an extra extent the laws people do break when they’re messed up (and not every even very messed up person does horrible things while messed up - I don’t mean in the it hurts other peoples feelings that someone is messed up way and that does matter too for family and friends but is not criminal; I mean in the drunk driving/murder/child abuse thing)

Also I feel an entire new reply is needed to address the whitewashing of Brazilian colonialism in your earlier comment.

Unless you're one of the 0.43% of the Brazilian population that is indigenous or are the descendant of exclusively slaves than you're a member of the group that carried out the genocide of the native populations and you're living on stolen land.

Can you imagine if people from the US tried to pull the shit you're doing?

"Oh you see, it was the English, French, Spanish, and Russians that originally took our land from the Native Americans so we aren't really responsible"

Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn't it?

Ditto for slavery.

Can you imagine if people from the US tried to pretend they weren't responsible for slavery since it was instituted by the English?
