Brazil isn't as invested in BRICS as China is. China and Russia hope to use BRICS to create a second IMF and a new world reserve currency. China can't let Russia be defeated because its governme t would collapse, which would bring about substantial and unpredictable changes in Russia- which China really doesn't want. China needs the war over quickly and sanctions removed to get Russia back on track. The longer the war drags on, the more problematic this becomes for China.

This is total BS, South Africa has been aligning for years with Russia and China.
This is basically hopium, the US threw SA under the bus in the 90's, what do you expect? Its a top strategic point on the globe...it's a pity it's lost.

You fail to see the difference between the entire free world being asked to supply aid to Ukraine, and literally nobody being asked to tell Ukraine how to handle their own situation? If you can't tell those two things apart I don't know what to tell you. Wanting amunition doesn't make Brazil special and it certainly isn't a suggestion that Lula of all people has some magical ability to "solve" the war in Ukraine. Nobody is asking for his opinion and yet he's trying to get attention for it anyways.
Honestly were people in this sub born yesterday? You don't recognize good old fashioned grandstanding when you see it?

Maybe they have underground rivers they navigate to get between all the top-secret underground military bases?

I fucking loathe the use of "quietly" and all of the dozens of buzz words headlines just loooove to use. If they posted the headline without the word quietly, it would still hold meaning and wouldn't sound like some stupid bs.

>with Lula having 2 conversations with Zelensky in the past week
I believe the conversations have not heppened yet. The original report from the Itamaraty said that the call between Lula and Zelensky had been scheldueld for after Carnaval and more recently Vieira said that it is expected to happen next week.
Vieria also mentioned that Lula will probably also hold a call with Putin a few days later as to follow the standard practice of the Itamaraty in cases of conflicts.
There's also been some reports that Zelensky will likely invite Lula to visit Ukraine during their direct call. Knowing Lula i think he is likely to accept.

Scholz literally asked him personally to sell tank ammunition to Germany to be sent to Ukraine, i fail to see how that is not asking someone to get involved.

I mean, a good chunck of the resolution was directly proposed by Brazil specifically, notacibly the call for an immediate ceasefire, it would have been kind of weird if we had voted against something that we proposed ourselves.
Only BRICS nation to not abstein in the vote too, which is something that i'm sure will be ignored by a lot of people on the sub who have zero knowledge or understanding of Brazil's diplomatic traditions and positioning in global conflicts and like to immediatly associate it's more neutral or moderate positions as being "pro-Russia".

I think it's more that he simply doesn't / cannot handle details: BJ is headlines kind of guy.
Details like pilots, ammo, maintenance are boring "details for the backroom boffins". One reason Brexit remains a mess: he couldn't get his head round all the complexities. Not a trait you want in a PM 🤦♂️

Recently I've watched a documentary on a family that lost their son in Ukraine. The little brother was devastated. But teh father was proud that his son died as a hero for his coutry. Now I'm thinking if he realizes that his son died in vain, what other choice does he have? Admit that he died for nothing? After 21 years invested in that young boy can he accept that it died in vain. His pride rather chose the 'hero' route.

>Something doesn’t work there
Simple, the same problem in the US. The rich are getting richer, they are refusing to pay their employees more and will even still try to cut wages to increase profit.
Then they cry "nobody wants to work anymore" for the next decade.

Americans definitely suffered when the Europeans came over and stole their land, of course we didn't call them "Americans" at the time.
There is a long and shitty history in how the US treated the native peoples, like most places conquered during the era European colonialism.

>there's not many people that miss them back home
You are joking right? You do understand that the Russians are losing people at an unprecedented rate in modern warfare for extremely small strategic and tactical gains. Each of those lives lost came from a family that most likely loved and cared about them. I cannot imagine that what you just said about their not being many people to miss them back home is true unless the majority of their family was conscripted and male because I don't know that there's many conscripts that are female in russia?
Anyway, every one of those lives lost has a family and I'm sure that those family members miss them. As for the dying as Heroes parts every soldier dies a hero is the punchline to war. Whether it be the people in Ukraine or the people in Russia.

Same. I've had a very deep depressive episode for a few months after the start of invasion. Could barely work (remotely) for weeks. Only month ago I've managed to drag myself down to a therapist and do something.
