uh, in ward 3 and Bethesda (where 90% of this bike ride was), car crashes are 5 times more likely to kill residents than homicides. i'm confused, there is pretty much nothing else that is dangerous in that part of town. cars are the only danger to pedestrians or residents.

as for infrastructure, a bit of paint and plastic bollards are nothing for a city that wastes millions or corruption.

this may be a bit far, but washgal's is pretty good. but that is probably too far NW for you.

closer in, stachowski has good meat too. not sure if they'll have it in stock or will need to order it though.

I dont think the show has anything to do with DC; this is just trying to connect your 'dreams' with the show.

Anywho it isn't perfect, but I get where they are going. I mean, very few apartments in Georgetown have parking, you can't get to the cathedral on metro, you can't buy a Wesley Heights home for under $3M, etc.

We just switched. We just have one kid, but recommend the Tern GSD for the city and maneuverability. We thought about the Yuba and the Xtracycle RFA, but like the low center of gravity.

We looked at the Urban Arrow/ R&M Load, but decided it was just too unwieldy for most of the city. It is fine for tooling around Brookland or Tenelytown, but hard to navigate otherwise. Though if we buy a second bike, it'll be the front bucket style.

Note, we have garage/shed parking. Makes a massive difference in day to day comfort and ease of use. Also considering we bought the bike instead of a second car, we really weren't phased by the cost. Between fuel, insurance, and car payments; the bike paid off in what 4 months of a decent RAV4 would have cost.

bit of a chicken-egg thing, huh?

Density along mcarthur is 1/5 of that of wisconsin south of tenly circle. We do know how many school age children live in the Foxhall-ish area. IRS, as well as 2020 Census data know exactly. DC also has access to this.

I'm counting 399 using block group data as the average of the last 5-years between 5 and 10 years old. But since I'm lazy, I'm including a good chunk of the Wesley/Mann catchment and going pretty much all the way to Key ES and who can't really walk to it. This includes kids who go to privates, which are quite popular in the area. I'm betting you can't really get more than 250 students who can walk to it; even accounting for diversion from privates)

DC was planning a 500 student school there. Mechanically they cannot get enough students for that within walking range. I don't think the fixed cost of a 250 or even 300 student school is worth it for DC. If they build it, it will be to mostly bus/drive in students. I'm ok with that, but let us not kid ourselves into thinking there are tons and tons of elementary school kids there now.

Really, unless they completely upzone the area, you aren't going to get many more people and that includes kids.
