From Bowl-Rite Lanes in Union City, it's only four miles one way. But you aren't wrong, for some people it isn't ideal. OP left some info out lol I have run from Newport to Elizabeth, NJ and on some days Newport to Hoboken sucks.

Run to the park and then run out of the park is what most folks do.

I think a lot of people are afraid to use the bus, look down on bus use, or have just never thought to use it in their rotation.

A lot of people have bus phobia. I used to take the jitney from Hutton to JSQ. It'd be like 8 minutes. If it was nice out I'd skateboard down hill but never the reverse.
