My sister came to town and we took her once when my son was young, like 6 or 7. One of my fondest memories, how proud he was to pilot the boat. But that wasn't the best part for me :

We had planned it for a few months, so I knew it was coming. My kid was taking swim lessons and doing really well. He didn't know what a Ducky Tour was, so I just told him it was a bus with the top cut off that took us around town. But that I was nervous, because they drove so close the water and more than once the tour bus had actually fallen into the water (keep in mind this was before the incident in Missouri). I told him "good thing your such a good swimmer!". This was all reinforced by the safety briefing about life jacket location when we boarded (See son, I told you!). He even asked my sister and her BF if they were good swimmers like he was, just in case.

Cut to us entering the water and I'm playing it up that I was really nervous at how close they're getting to the water... then we were in the water. You should have seen his face. He was ready to jump over the side and swim for it, lol.

He got over it quick, and got to drive the boat back and forth in the open river. Not without a comment for me about "try not to hit land". The captain was right there with him, kind of steering him away from other boats if needed. But yeah, lifelong memory. And somehow he hasn't needed therapy about the whole thing.

I may sound like a shill because I post this often on this sub - but the McDonald's app is the only fast-food app worth a damn. Good deals in it (bogo breakfast sandwiches, or buy on get one for $1) daily, and you can do the curbside pickup and skip the drive thru.

About 6 months ago one of my kids worked there and I would give him a ride to start at 6 or 7AM - drive thru would be packed with morning runs. Since I was there, what the hell I'll treat myself - just pull into the spot, pull up the app, and I'm usually out of there in <5 minutes with people still sitting in the drive thru from when I arrived.

Fair assessment. I can say, when one of my kids was the victim of a crime, the (Butler) DA met with me before offering a plea deal, actually deferred to my judgement. They didn't have to, and this case is different, but something like "We need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the intent" if you go for higher charges could risk the guy getting off with zero punishment. I don't know the details of this case, just speculating.

In the app they frequently have 2/$4 on breakfast sammies, or buy one get one for a dollar. I don't generally like an app for everything, but the McDonalds one is actually good, has good deals, and you can do curbside and skip the drive-thru line and it is a superior experience IMO.

That's GE's model. They raise the "everyday prices" to higher than MSRP, and then have weekly sales. Kuhns and Shop n Save do the same. In fact I'd call that the "traditional grocery store model" of back in the day. Walmart and Aldi to a lesser degree disrupted that model.

The example I use to compare is Kraft Mac and Cheese. It's $1 all the time at Walmart, about $1.50 at GE. But GE will have a sale 4/$5. I actually scored a whole case from Kuhns, first on sale for $0.50 and then clearance for $0.25. I put shelves up in my garage as extra pantry space, and have 2 chest freezers so I'm all about stocking up on sales.

I've never had any issues, either with just myself or my kids. I went in as basically a comic book noob and they were nice and explained things to me. They gave me promo tickets for the first Guardians of the Galaxy once when I went in with the kids too.

There's no denying that type of store attracts a certain type. Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons wasn't randomly made up. I have seen them have to get on people about the bag policy, and a few heated conversations with a lot of "ackchyually"s flying around.

A lot of this stems from people not understanding how the elections work. I live in a red county, and a lot of people have the perception that their vote doesn't matter because of the way the Presidential elections work with the electoral college - they thing the entire county "goes" to a candidate and that's it, because that's the map they're used to seeing.

That's not how the midterms work. Every vote counts. If I was the only person in my county to vote for Fetterman, it still counts towards the statewide count.

The urban counties do the heavy lifting for sure - but my red county still had about 35% voting Dem. Without those votes the election would have turned out quite differently.

To expand on this for OP : most if not all inspection mechanics will fix an issue that would cause a fail - for example, tires without adequate tread, worn out brake pads, etc - without charging for reinspection. It's a main way that they get work.

A lot of people hate the safety inspections and think they are a scam. I won't deny that untrustworthy mechanics exist, who charge for repairs that aren't actually needed. I myself had a bad experience with a chain (PepBoys to name and shame). Suggest you find a reputable independent shop near you. Ask your neighbors, friends, or even your local subreddit will probably have recommendations if you ask.

For those of those interested in donating - you can donate at any local PNC branch $50 or more, they match that amount up to a total of $75k.

Yes, I'm sure it's a tax write off and free advertising, but seriously the best thing you can do to support the food bank is a cash donation, and any matching donation is putting food in people's bellies.

$50 may be a little steep - at my work we usually pool money together, even the most miserly person will throw $20, and then donate all at once. For a good cause and in the spirit of the holiday.

Edit : to add a source since it's hard to find an online text reference for Thanksgiving 2022

It's probably some bad data in their system not getting cleared, like you're in the database as a first time voter.

A coworker of mine got turned away twice today because they have his SSN tied to someone in Washington County (He's in Allegheny). Had to call the Allegheny County voting office and got it fixed in short order.

If you already brought your ID and voted, I'd probably give it a week or so before calling because they're going to be busier than the Zoo on Mothers/Fathers Day

It was such a good system. My parents even bought one, never owned a console before in their life and still refer to every one (like if they saw my PS4) as "The Nintendo".

Then don't forget Wii Fever 2 : Wii Fit boogaloo. We had a group email set up at work for sighting alerts.

I had to take the Parkway from the Airport area to the North Side last night around 7 last night. It got to "I have to get off the phone with the person I'm talking with because people are nuts right now" levels which hasn't happened in a while (I do this drive almost every Sunday).

I chalked it up to the Steelers losing and low-T men being angry.

Had a fun time in the dark trying to merge on the Ft. Pitt with 3 different people with their lights off, at night. Was tempted to make a post to /r/pittsburgh "PSA : It's getting dark out earlier, remember to turn on your headlights at night" like the "clear off the snow, watch out for deer" posts.

I actually think this is neat. Like I know one guy in my circle of friends with a TIG welding setup, who has offered to show me the ropes. It's not exactly something I'm interested in, but I appreciated his offer since there is a big barrier to entry getting started for this kind of thing.
