I don't understand why this is so contentious, it's not like the people falling in love with AI are going to be missed from the sexual market. They're getting cause and effect backwards here.

I'm going to break with common sentiment here and say humans both deserve and need to know what it feels like to fall in love. In that vein I see AI waifus as a potentially viable therapy.

Even if we achieve full cognitive and morphological freedom, so no one is barred from mating by physical deformity or neurodivergence, some people might still choose not to change or partake at all. And that's valid too.

>Post-human doesn't imply eugenics.

There's a lot of overlap.

>Eugenics is about breeding a "superior" race and the eradication of "undesirable traits".

I mean, I can afford to give my kids a lot of advantages. In ten years that might amount to some nifty germline edits for every one of my descendants going forward. Project that advantage into the future...

If people don't want to use my tax money to subsidize these for everyone else's kids, that's their choice.

>It necessarily implies an authority defining what traits are desirable for a large group of people (the "race" in question).

It's called the FDA. As much as I hate them, this is literally their job.

>It goes beyond breeding and race and the need to eradicate any specific trait.

Some traits need eradicating. It doesn't have to be controversial; just allow parents choice and subsidize the costs where reasonable. This is hardly unprecedented, even with touchy issues. Look at the abortion rates for fetuses with Down's syndrome.

>Genghis Khan didn't do what he did for a lack of space.

Don't pretend to know his motivations. Take a look at 'great' people today, the ones that get written about. Is Putin Genghis Khan? He's futilely fighting for the future of his crumbling empire and dying out people yet he's a monster. And a bit of a pathetic clown.

Also, that's where the grow strong part comes in. We must compete or die in the ultimate, technical sense. But less scarcity has translated into less violent competition so far. Llet's push that further and see how far it scales first, before giving up on all growth and life. (Not that I would anyway, it's axiomatic to my identity)

>So, stop whining about people literally in poverty trying to make ends meet being mad at you for these giant tech companies taking what little they have left

These people are threatening and undermining open-source AI development, which is the only foothold people like you, I and yes, their own stupid asses, likely have into the new world just around the corner. They are quite literally enabling corporate capture of emerging technologies at a critical point.

I'll be blunt so all our new members from Twitter understand the gravity of the situation: I'd rather see every artist protesting this starve to death in the street. Don't make us choose.

>An event horizon is not the same thing as a singularity.

I never said it was. I said we've crossed the event horizon, which puts us 'inside' the singularity.

>I mean, you can have your own personal definition

I didn't come up with it, Kurzweil did as far as I know.

>That moment, by actual definition, is when AI reaches a greater intelligence than all collective human intelligence

There's no 'actual' definition. It's a hypothetical/speculative.

That's not the only definition of singularity. My personal definition of a technological singularity is a point in time when we're experiencing so many black swan events that the future becomes impossible to predict at shorter and shorter timescales. The event horizon.

We're definitely there as far as I'm concerned.

Who cares.

Futurology is a garbage sub full of literal idiots and this site would be a better place of it imploded. It's not like containment boards actually work on Reddit anymore. Whiny doomers dominate this site more each day. The comments there are indistinguishable from r/technology. What a waste.

r/futurism seems a promising replacement
