If your cross street is Maple it’s definitely a little bit of a seedy area but nothing to be too concerned about. You’re right down the street from Bagel Cafe and Restoration Cafe, both great breakfast spots. Pizza by Rocco up the street has the best pizza in the city. You’re also walkable to Elm where there are various bars, cafes, and restaurants. Walking home at night from Elm I would keep your guard up and if you’re really worried you can just hop in a quick uber. There is some beautiful nature in and around the city and an hour north puts you in the Lakes Region and another 15-30 minutes in the heart of the White Mountains. 45 Minutes east is the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re not into outdoor activities there’s plenty of other things to do in Manchester, and Boston is less than an hour away if you’re looking for a bigger city experience. I was hesitant to move to Manchester in my mid 20s as well but I’ve been here over a year now and I really think it is a great place to live.

To Share, Candia Road, Great North, and Backyard are all solid spots, my favorite is probably To Share but everyone has their own personal preference. Most people will tell you to steer clear of Stark Brewing and I would unfortunately have to agree.

Give Manchester a chance is my advice. It will likely have the most rental options under $2k, it is under an hour from the ocean, Boston, and lakes/mountains, and it has some of the best food in the state due in large part to its diverse population. If you’re single and looking to date there’s also lots of clubs, events, social sports, bars etc. There is also poverty, homelessness, and crime, just like any other comparably sized city. Don’t go looking for trouble, lock your car doors, and you should be fine.

Check out the Manchester Cedar Swamp for sure, they just redid the All-Persons trail and there’s lots of cool interpretive stuff for kids. Another great spot is Pulpit Rock in Bedford. If you’re looking to hike some mountains within thirty minutes of the city check out the Uncanoonucs in Goffstown.

Prices vary pretty widely and apartment options are limited outside of the cities. You may be able to find a 1BR in that price range but definitely not a 2BR. Consider looking for roommates, might open up your options. Keene is a nice little town but kind of isolated. Why rule out Manchester? If you’re a young person it’s one of the best places to be in the state as there are lots of ethnic restaurants, fun bars, and things to do in general. Its central location also allows you to travel to the ocean, White Mountains, Lakes Region, and Boston all within about an hour. We have the Uncanoonuc Mountains too which are fun little mountains to hike about 20 minutes outside of town.

Hope you enjoy! If you’re looking for something quicker/takeout check out Taqueria y Pastelitos, Antojitos Colombianos, or Rita Supermaket. All super delicious and authentic spots for hispanic food in Manchester.
