If you’re talking bagels in Boston I don’t think you have the best spots on your list. Kupel’s bagels are so sad, fluffy and bready and the lox spread has no flavor at all. Bagelsaurus has sourdough bagels with the right chewiness but the sour flavor is too much. The best bagels in Boston are at Exodus. They’re also hated on the Boston sub same as Rebelle… but no doubt the best bagels in the area!

Oh I’m personally not doing a whole lot to help the homeless, that’s what the government and non-profits are for and I have a life to live. I agree that the two things are not exclusive. I’m just tickled by how everyone wants to solve the crisis and house the homeless but nobody wants it in their neighborhood. We see it over and over, most recently I’m thinking of the hotel in Warwick. As you say, it’s VERY easy for folks here to type up their thoughts on the solution to the homelessness crisis for their own woke cred…. Then they turn around and complain. What are you doing to help?

In the US it’s impossible to do it like that because the culture and structure of this society is “fuck you, I got mine” so nobody wants a $11 sandwich when there’s another one for $9.25 and who cares how the $9.25 one gets made and how much the workers earn. I feel like someone made that point to me earlier on this thread so I’m just kinda regurgitating. Also most of the entire world operates under worse conditions for service workers. Unless you’re specifically thinking of Europe, where things are different because society believes in strengthening the safety net (not so much recently)… anyway hope that makes sense to you!

But see, all over this sub and even in this thread, people are pretty willing to separate the art from the artist for a guy but not for a woman. You say you do and then you put a “but” right after go negate everything you just said. The food must be good if it’s getting this recognition. She has two teams working at two places so there’s that too, people work with/for her and if she was the worst, she wouldn’t be able to put together a team. I’ve heard bad things about many many other chefs this sub loves. So in my view there is clearly a double standard and as other commenters have pointed out, it comes off sexist. As a woman I am bothered.

Ultimately I don’t know how “high stakes” the world of bagels might be to drive this lady into batshit insanity. Maybe we see it happen and everyone can have a laugh. But the title of this thread and the interest it has generated makes me think she’s winning the game on the haters.

I don’t think you know a ton tbh. And I say this as someone who is really upset by the way 7 Stars pays their employees. But the customers always pay for the employees thru the tips or the price but you always pay. I don’t think 7S had increased prices in a minute and the cost of raw ingredients must be wild af at this point. Other bakeries I follow mention soaring prices of butter and eggs.

FYI it was the workers who had lobbied for years to have the POS collect tips. The new owners are bazillionaires from Barrington so idk why they’re paying below minimum wage… but I highly doubt their “house of cards” will be toppled anytime soon if the traffic at Hope St and Broadway is any indication.

Idk just cruising thru google I can see she literally replies to ALL the reviews. Not just the bad ones, but the good ones as well. I have to say I don’t know of any other local business where the owner takes the time to respond to every single review, even to say thank you. That’s unusual but ultimately good in my eyes.

I still don’t think you’re in a position to be “diagnosing” people you don’t know. Says as much about you as you think it says about her. Just don’t go there, don’t give her your money and don’t give it your attention! Go live your life

I always think to myself like leaving an extra $1 tip isn’t going to kill me or ruin my budget but it goes a long way for the service team.

Some of the discussion here I really don’t get. I would 100% tip my mechanic. Especially if I plan on getting future services. They’ll give special attention to my car, squeeze me in for appointments when I’m in an emergency and look the other way when my car is messy inside.

I’m really happy that folks are smartening up about not giving cash to businesses so they can stay afloat, judging by the comments here. Urban Greens (and any other business looking to raise cash quickly from customers) could do a flash sale on gift cards, for example. Or access a line of credit from their bank. Hell, even Square will constantly offer their merchants lending options based on their cash flow. There are options, is all I’m saying. Asking for a handout is lazy as hell.
