How exactly? The TJs parking lot in Warwick isn’t that big. I’ve never had more than a “have to wait an additional light” to get in or out. Theres always spaces. This TJs is in between interstate on ramps and off ramps (also with loads of street parking around) - meaning they are already areas built for high volume. This isn’t Costco.

Well the parking is a part of the whole complex. So while every finishing of the apt portion doesn’t need to be done, there are things that have to be done to have the parking available.

I live, walk, bike and drive in Providence.
You literally stated that people are killed and it’s not part of any stats. That’s a bit extreme.

What? People are hit by cars and killed and they go unnoticed or not reported?

As someone who lived in a city with affordable units required in nearly all developments - it’s not really a solution. The waiting list is thousands of people who qualify. Having 10 units in a 100 unit building is lovely, but it doesn’t actually put a dent in the “demand”. Providence needs more and more developments to help stabilize the increases.

Yeah when it’s not something starting from scratch (ie new license, new car, etc) it’s usually possible. But again, since the DMV is by appointment going to AAA doesn’t really save time anymore. Unless it just happens to be the closest location for you.

I don’t think you can do a new license from out of state at AAA. It’s mostly renewal type of stuff. Regardless, the DMV is by appt now, not a line.

I 100% never said they were “lazy”. Just to be clear.
I just am stating the homelessness in RI is caused by issues not related to jobs. If you have them all shelter, clothing, etc. they wouldn’t magically be on their feet with good jobs. There’s underlying issues like mental illness and drug addiction that are preventing many from getting on their feet.

I mean what is the solution here for the US? Flip a switch to turn over control of utilities, housing, health care, etc to solve homelessness? That’s not a practical answer.
There’s better support services that can be provided for the homeless and needy by the government. And there’s examples of this. If they are better supported it will give them an opportunity to maintain jobs that do exist.

There are plenty of capitalist countries that have much stronger support in these areas. There’s no direct correlation.

Yes, housing is an issue. These people living in tents are not simply working 60 hour weeks and just can’t find a place to live — there’s other significant factors at play in most cases.

I’m not sure “capitalism” is the fault. There’s no shortage of jobs (and decent paying service jobs).
This is more likely a mental health and/or rehab issue.

Reply to Does anyone commute from Providence to Boston each day by train? We are seriously considering purchasing a home but we work at Mass General Hospital. Looking for people with experience to either talk us into it or talk us out of it. by [deleted]
I think there’s a number of factors here, some of which you can only answer.
-
How close in PVD Will your house be to the station? Revisit this after #3.
-
The train itself from PVD to BOS isn’t bad although it seems to have picked back up in ridership (not sure if number of trains are back to pre-pandemic).
-
You’d have to get from the train to Mass Gen - luckily that transfer isn’t that bad. You’ll see other horror stories of transfers and the unreliable and slow T.
-
Revisiting one, this will be the 3rd leg of the commute. That adds up.
At the end of the day, you can get a lot more bang for your buck in PVD. And that can lead to a much higher quality of life. It’s just a matter of whether that 90 mins on a train each way is worth it and every day. The one thing to also consider is if you’re looking actually in PVD and have kids/considering kids, consider the cost of school of private school is needed vs other locations.

It’s on the same block as buildings with plastic siding and 1970s concrete buildings. Not sure that one building made an entire street. Their building was a disaster in complete disarray. Sure, it would have been nice to keep but everyone wants to “save historic buildings” but no one wants to pay for it.

Pastiche has a decent coffee menu and open late. Plus you get good dessert while you’re at it! It’s small though so they may not love you lingering too too long.

Yes I live there. There’s literally about 1/4 mile of street parking literally across the street on S. Main and S. Water. There’s also built in parking.
These types of developments exist in many cities.
