Reply to Need help with fried chicken by DOCoSPADEo
There was a Chester's Chicken in the gas station heading towards Durham on 108 out of Newmarket. it's flipped hands a bunch, and not sure if the chicken offerings are still there, but it was a nice place to satisfy the fried chicken craving. THat gas station used to have Mediterranean food (the doner kabob's were amazing), but alas, that's gone.

Dover is up and coming and an easy jaunt from Portsmouth and manchester. Tons of great skiing around a 2 hour drive (I have the Epic pass... Sunapee, Wildcat and Attitash are the ones I'm going to ski a lot at this winter). There are a lot of apartment buildings in Dover, no idea about occupancy or rates (I drive Uber sometimes, and am suprised when I find a new apartment complex in the area.. had no idea).Until recently, I was single and dating (have a GF now), and its' not too hard to date in the seacoast area if you expand searches to Manchester and into MA. I am 50 though, so maybe my dating pool is slightly different. I'm a fisherman and hiker/camper and I love the seacoast as all my fun hobbies can be had reasonably close. But you pay a premium to live in this area.
Around the seacoast... personally, I'd avoid Somersworth and Rochester. You'll .ikely find cheaper rent there, but these are economically disadvantaged areas with the associated crime. Crime is all relative... it is NH afterall.

Portsmouth usually puts on a fun First Night (12/31), with fireworks and such. Consider sticking around for that.
Regarding that week... I don't believe places close. You should be fine.
Regarding places to eat... there's a fun hot pot place on Penhollow st (Pink Bamboo). Jumping Jays is my favorite for seafood in town. I just had a recommendation that Massimo's was the best italian meal an acquaintance ever had. If you have a car (or don't mind ubering), some good fried seafood is at Bob's Clam Hut in kittery (right near a bunch of outlet shopping).

When I lived in Newmarket, we used Great Bay Kids Company. It was fantastic. They have a center on Pease, but I think it's much larger than the one we used in Newmarket. This was about 10 years ago though.

yeah, but usually the biking trails are singletrack. It's really mountain biking, but there's often a contingent in the winter that sets up the biking trails so that fat bikes can use them.
Which reminds me... another cheap activity... snowshoeing. that's how a lot of the fat bike trails get packed down to ride on. So it can kind of expand.
There are MTB bike groups all over the state, and then usually fat biking groups are a subset of those.

The entry expense is relatively high, but fat biking is year round fun. Once you buy the bike and helmet... basically, that's it. There's a pretty vibrant community of people to meet who fat bike. Good bikes are pretty expensive though, and likely more than you indicate you want to spend.
You could probably get some inexpensive fishing gear. I combine hiking and fishing in the whites to get my sanity restored. Granted, that's not exactly a year round activity.

I enjoy it, if only because it forces the candidates to actually come to NH. I have gone to several candidates' forums, and a party's state convention to see a bunch speak, something that absolutely wouldn't happen if NH wasn't first.
I know there are cynics (including me I guess) that could argue about candidates just spewing talking points. But one of the things I was watching for was if they took questions, how they answered. Did they actually answer the question, or did they blow more smoke. To me that is a subtle sign about their leadership skills and thought processes.
If it went away... I'd be bummed but I would likely have no affect on my day to day life.

Lee was hammered. According to NHEC, 100% is out. We lost power around 7 am and while they were slowly restoring it, a squall with 70 mph winds came through and knocked it all back out. Good times. Whoever installed the generator hookup before I bought my house put the plug where a coffee maker would logically go on one of the few circuits that the generator powers. This person is a life saver.
