The handful of interactions I’ve had or seen, mostly gives a vibe a lot of the force still thinks it’s the bad old days of the 90s. Petty theft stuff never gets anywhere (it took 6 weeks to file the damn report, I don’t need you to solve it just a report number for an insurance claim!), but on the other hand they let most things go (for better or worse)

I got downvotes and claims saying I didn’t care about the children.
I do care about the children, we spend far too much to have this bad of outcomes with such little oversight. Controversial I know

In some of the neighborhoods: You see that median there? Any hashed yellow stripes? Fair game park on it. Double park people in, honk your horn if you gotta leave until someone comes out to move. It's.... it's a chaotic culture impenetrable to outsiders, that I only am aware of second hand.

Itto's good; my opinion is it's a perfectly serviceable join if it's your local neighborhood, but wouldn't put it on a farewell to JC tour. And it's subjective, but I find their seating area off, like something about the layout is just uncomfortable feeling and needs to be redesigned.

What's the appeal of Lokal for the OP? Happy hour brew and the unmatched NYC view?

I was expecting Philly style parking. Instead this is just clearly someone trying to get an insurance payout when someone side swipes their car, or someone who only cares about anarchy

Most of the rest stops have an "I heart NY State" shop where you can buy maple syrup, wine, ect. They also schedule local farmers to table and offer stuff like apples and pies. It's just such a surround of support & promotion.

NY State does so much more to support local producers & farmers, it's kinda wild we don't just copy most of it.

NY also has a class of license that is cheaper, but you can only serve NY state produced beer & wine. Would love to see that support of NJ businesses. (They also give tax credits to producers who use a certain percentage of ingredients produced by NY state farmers).
Meanwhile the license lobby in NJ is tossing fits because breweries are having events and maybe coordinate with a food truck, how dare they offer a nice experience! When they are pulling shit like that and talking about their license as ‘investment assets’ and can get loans based on their value (of a government controlled/restricted/manufactured ‘asset’), it’s gotta be time for change. As long as they don’t pull a taxi medallion too hard and let things cushion down, I’m all for the change

It at least tried to have a somewhat original architectural idea/create a vibe.
I still feel like 99 hudson is kinda boring, and the somewhat unique thing about it (the detailing towards the top/break in the windows) feels unfinished or somehow lacking a detail to bring it all together/make sense more visually. I'd rather someone try a big swing and end up with something have a feeling on either way

The JC location dropped hare within like 1 month of opening. There are probably a few dudes with the skills to manage the unique pies, and/or the ability to care. And if you want a simple plain or pepperoni slice, there is no point in getting that from Toney Baloney's.
Making it clear to folks, in case it sounds like I'm an apologist: It is NOT a recommend

I wouldn't hate on them that hard. I wanted to hate them so bad, but was genuinely surprised with the quality when they first opened in JC (expensive, but some unique things & great for something different as a treat). When that opening HQ crew left things dropped, and at that price point I don't risk lack of consistency. Anyone I know who has gone recently has declared them straight bad

What was the pricing & quality like?
When I work with film, I'm okay with a cheaper price and 90s drug store quality. Places seem to be going high end high priced as using film becomes more and more niche, trying to find the goldilocks on price/quality
