This intersection has been a shit show for years. We're on vision zero influenced V2. The bridge through LSP to 78 has not helped one bit, nor the additional hospital construction. It's still unsafe and awkward to use for pedestrians, cars, and bikes trying to use it.

One time in a tread here someone demanded I couldn't possibly know it was dangerous without a traffic study, which got me pissy because ANYONE WHO HAS WALKED ACROSS THAT INTERSECTION GETS IT. It probably needs a left turn arrow from Jersey onto Grand, probably needs raised cross walks, probably needs speed bumps or other calming measure further back in all directions, probably needs a full cycle of red for cars and walk for pedestrians. Probably also needs a crossing guard posted for all rush hour times.

If you head out for Thursday, there are friendly folks that would load you a deck if you asked. Pre-cons for Commander can be had for ~$40-50, and most could be upgraded to be better for another $20-30 of singles; not the worst costs for a Magic format!

There is a small card shop in Bayonne, MTG events run at the Play Hoboken Space, a few places in the city, then some folks drive out to NJ for events at suburban shops for tournaments & prereleases. It's a lower margin business that needs lots of floor space, so it's hard to make it work in JC! That's why we made the facebook group and group chat, as there are enough folks here to get a community going but no store.

The bagels are just fine at best from the downtown location. Other locations are a bit better. Coffee's went downhill, prices have gone up. Cat was Narc'd.

It's a perfectly acceptable mid tier bagel, some people over hype what is a run of the mill local joint, some people feel we deserve better. Something something Suburban strip mall places have got us beat.

We didn't start the fire. It was always burning since the world started turning.

If you play Magic, there is a Facebook group & chat. A good sized group meets most Thursdays for mostly Commander, and then folks plan other meetups as well. Someone is trying to get a Legacy scene going even!

Article is paywalled for me, but I believe JC had already passed local ordinance to allow for consumption lounges pending state approval (when most towns were banning sales or that specifically to front run legislation) & there may have already been a handful of applicants to the city waiting for the state rules. It's hard to keep up with changes, so this could be out of date/not the whole truth; but, I think lounges are a great idea especially in a place with the density of JC (apartment/shared space, in addition to far less driving)

Not a joke, the JC & Hudson county resturant week has missed the whole fuckin' point for years.

I don't even have to pull up this year's to know it. Hamilton Pork probably follow the format of what lots of people do in years past: probably pick an app, pick an entree, maybe a drink, (all full price adding up to $39- and the funny part sometimes less if you buy individually from the normal menu), and then toss in a free half assed dessert that isn't on the normal menu like a brownie with a scoop of iced cream.

Fortune has always been a dud for me the few times I tried. Maybe this is why, I was always confused why people post about it being good on this sub... it was bland and adequate at best the couple times I tried.

It’s… missable, not a must go. It’s more expensive and less good than the old dinner, while also having worse hours. It’s fine enough, but I went from going to the brownstone 1-2 times a month to going to life once or twice ever with no plans on going back. It’s not even a thought that clicks in my head anymore

The teacher shortage is nation wide, and in all the suburbs.

More than a few districts are starting brand new teachers currently at the the equivalent pay grade step, that teachers who started 4 or 5 years ago are at now. (For the most part this is public as public employees).

Other factor not mentioned is the polarization of politics around masks, and hard right wing groups organizing to start shit over basically anything they can. A friend got heated calls left at the school board over how they need to be fired over delivering the state mandated curriculum presentation that people being different & diverse is okay, or that handing out a mask to a kid will turn them gay because everyone knows they are treated with chemicals. Don’t blame anyone wanting to ditch out from that sorta noise happening on the regular
