Thanks for taking care of this little guy! I foster for a few rescue groups in Hudson County, but don't know any groups that could help in your area.

If you don't get any good leads here, you could reach out to rescue groups in your area to see if they can help find a home for the cat. Petfinder.com is very useful for finding local rescue groups... here's what I found around Metuchen:

Cute kitty!

Can you clarify: is this a cat you just found - with the collar & bell on? (so potentially lost / separated from its family, or dumped.) Or a cat you took in from outside a while ago, and can no longer care for?

Those situations have different paths to good outcomes... let us know. Also, important to know where you are in NJ.

There used to be a whole bunch of small surface lots around JSQ, but in the last year or two many of those have become construction sites. Here are some good current options:
+ parking deck @ the PATH station, run by LAZ. Entrance is at the intersection of Summit Ave & Magnolia Ave.

+ 2 Journal Square Plaza aka 2940 Kenndy Blvd, just northwest of the PATH station. Enter from Kenndy Blvd southbound

+ State Square garage. Enter from Kennedy Blvd or Sip Ave

+ Square Ramp, behind the Loews Theater… enter via Magnolia Ave / Tonnelle Ave

It's free, and can confirm people park scooters in the JSQ pod. No idea if there's still taking more users at that location... fill out the Sign Up form or contact them via the phone number or email address on their user portal: https://www.oonee.me/

Thanks for the pics. I take back my suggestion of Recycle-A-Bicycle... definitely looks like scrap (or material for an art project, as you mentioned).

I see scrap metal collectors driving around JC pretty often, but not sure how they work: if they drive around looking for stuff on garbage collection days, or mostly work from tips / word of mouth. If you don't have other leads, you could try putting some of it out in the afternoon of your trash collection night and see if it gets picked up. If yes, do another batch the next week. If not, you'd have to pick it up off the curb & probably pay for removal. Good luck!

In addition to things others have mentioned (use Citibike, lock up close to the business you're visiting): some businesses will let you bring your bike inside. Just ask... some places may give you the nod.

Also, Jersey City made a deal with Ooonee to operate 30 secure bike parking locations around the city: probably smaller versions of the one at Journal Square. When this was announced about a year ago, these were supposed to start opening by the end of 2022. I haven't heard anything about this recently... hopefully the plan is still on track.

I agree with Moose - that's a great deal, go for it. You'll have the shortest walk ever to get to the PATH, and an apartment in a new building for rent I don't think you could match anywhere else in JC or equivalent neighborhoods in NYC.

If you're looking for bougie bars & restaurants, those are a 4-minute PATH ride away at Grove Street (plus everything in NYC a few minutes more on the PATH).

Around Journal Square you'll find excellent authentic food from many nations: India, Philippines, Egypt come to mind. Anyone who says "there's nothing around" has their eyes and mind closed.

Hey, I agree on the need for more housing!

There has already been some adaptive re-use of old buildings in that neighborhood to add density, and I’d love to see more of that.

The new developments north & west of HP seem to be more car-oriented than transit-oriented (close to 1 parking spot for each unit). I’m not keen on having all those additional cars & car-dependent people in the mix in JC. I’d rather keep seeing more development in places that people will walk to transit.
