Home to the last Friendlys in Maine.
It was always a hit or miss franchise. When they were good they were very good, but when you found a bad one, Mystic, CT comes to mind, they were horrid. I've always enjoyed the So Po one when I get down there.

It's been many years so I don't remember the streets but it was downtown. I was doing renovations in one of the old buildings and we found and opened a door in the basement. We followed the tunnel to a closed and locked door. From the direction and length it was obvious it went to the house across the street which were offices at the time.

Pretty sure I didn't say it was lawless. It's just not Southern Maine. In my town I could put up a building such as a garage or shed and not ask any permissions. My point was that there is much of the state you can set your yurt and not ask permission. Of course waterfront and septic issues would apply.

Many rural areas in Maine have very lax or even non existing zoning laws. Try more central or northern areas.

It was like 2 bucks and change I think the last time I went. That was the mid 80's. I'm almost thinking you could still smoke in there.

My bank, one that I have multiple accounts with, tried to tell me they wouldn't accept my 3 day expired license to cash a check once. When I explained that I would move all my business to another bank if that were the case they suddenly decided to make an exception.

They are not supposed to accept expired id's or licenses by law. It's kind of dumb but that's how it is.
