Great suggestions. Also consider switch from backpack to messenger bag.

Yeah if you look a little older than an undergrad you’ll just be mistaken for a grad/professional student. For study spots I’d go for G Cafe on Chapel or on Orange. A nicer spot away from Yale is Pistachio. The original one in Westville. They have a new location on Chapel and Howe that looks nice in photos but I haven’t been. And there’s always Mamoun’s but I don’t know if they have wifi or not.

Yes I’ve been there 2-3 times post pandemic only because someone else suggested it. Not impressed.

Olea is too fussy - all those foams and reductions and tiny portions. Meh.

I’ve never liked Olea. I’d go to Union League or Tavern on State. If they’re from someplace landlocked then Shell and Bones.

84 W outside of Waterbury can be a parking lot. Try to avoid. I know there are ways to spend very little time on 84 I just can’t remember details.

No burgers there tho - it’s vegetarian. But their fries kick butt.

Love that place. Go on a Friday so you can get pierogies at PolMag Deli.

Yes I agree w you about that. Two separate situations. I was just thinking yesterday about the difference between a frozen Zuppardi’s apizza heated up at home vs eating one at the restaurant. Not even the same animal.

I like the damp cardboard smell that goes with that. Probably because growing up in New Haven we mostly had Pepe’s and Ernie’s as takeout so the cardboard smell and the taste of Foxon Park grape soda have become Proustian.

There’s more crime than meets the eye. Lots of cars being stolen, carjackings, muggings. Join the Hamden Crime Watchers group on FB for details. It’s convenient to New Haven and there are some decent restaurants and bars - easier to get to/park then the ones in New Haven. The Farmington Canal trail is a big bonus.

Eat at Fair Haven Oyster. Drive along state st from Chapel to Lawrence, and then back down Orange st between Cold Spring and Trumbull.
