They're already on the streets, that's the whole damn problem!

Where would you consider REASONABLE? Anywhere that's accessible to the homeless is probably going to be near a lot of other social infrastructure that someone is going to take issue with them being nearby.

I think Hardwick is the only Worcester County town that's in the 413, but we can call them Western Mass just for laughs.

I'm surprised their bill wasn't higher. They should be happy to have such good insulation.

Not only that, but they haven't drawn universal condemnation from the right, despite repeatedly threatening violence. That goes beyond any politics of how you feel on these issues, the silence emboldens people to act on the rhetoric they're spreading. It's tacit support of terrorism.

That has nothing to do with regulations. We actually had some deli-style places before covid killed that. I've had some places pop a canister to show me the product. They probably just don't want you to see it because it's all dry AF.

So does it reduce land value? Because otherwise you would be paying twice: once for the rights and once to be rid of them.
NativeMasshole t1_j06e8ec wrote
No shit. Can anybody who works in the city even afford to rent there on their own? Starting prices put starting rental wages around $25/hour. What industry does Worcester even have that can support those prices?

It's also not some happiness factor like people act like it is. Literally just means that we have a high level of development. We're still missing essential things like functional public transportation, especially when you look outside the 495 belt.

You have to pay them to offload the rights? That's insane! You would think the city would want to take a more proactive approach than that
NativeMasshole t1_j04n9z9 wrote
Is there no buyout option? The city should be asking for some of that infrastructure money to offer to buy the streets back. Seems like a lot of the ones I drive by are being used as public rights of way anyway. Doesn't seem fair to be asking for homeowners to pay maintenance on them if there's no way out of the situation for them.

Just looked it up on Zillow. Cheapest house is $364k for a dumpy 660 sqft 2 br with no yard. Apartments start at $1500 for a 400 sqft studio. How super affordable!

You can take a train from Union Station to NYC. You just need to take it out to Boston and all the way down the coast first. Which takes something like 6 hours.

Is that why there's no concerts there? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! If central Mass needed one thing to promote entertainment, it should have been an outdoor music venue. All our venues either suck or are tiny, and I don't think there's any major outdoor venues in the entire county.

It's a hike from Douglas, but Yankee Spirits has free whiskey tastings fairly regularly.
Edit: No big whiskey tastings scheduled, but the one in Norwood has a big event with bottle engraving and a couple different whiskey vendors giving samples.
