The Cross Harbor tunnel would be a better investment as it would take trucks bound for Long Island off the regional highway network. Its projected cost was around 8 billion...if they were serious about actually reducing tunnel congestion they would consider that or at least study it..

10 billion is probably to cost of the full build of the Newark LRT which would connect the various cities and dense towns in Essex / Union / Passaic / Hudson Counties...servicing a population of 1 million... I'm told theres never any money for mass transit expansion in this state but billions flow freely to the highway and road network.

I think we might see a few of these projects built over the next 10 years..
- The MARC/Amtrak Upgrade plan similar to the 3.5 billion $ Amtrak/VRE upgrade in Virginia. Dedicated tracks and separate tracks for Passenger service along the Camden & Brunswick Lines
- The Baltimore Tunnel replacement for Amtrak , allowing for faster speeds and double the capacity
- Maryland Northeast Corridor Bridge Replacements , allowing for speeds up to 180mph with some curve straightening
- Yellow line extension to BWI Airport station
- Infill Stations on the MARC Penn line in Baltimore
- A switch to EMUs on the Penn Line and DMUs on the Brunswick/Camden Lines
- A Red Line LRT line
- Green Line Extension to Morgan State
- Charles Streetcar replacing the proposed Yellow line from the Harbor to Towson
- Under the Amtrak connects proposal , service to Harrisburg from DC via Baltimore

There have been a few recent threads on this very same topic over the last week...and the Metro prototype solution to the problem doesn't appear to be working...they need taller paddle doors like the Paris Metro or PATCO High Speed Line uses in South Jersey/Camden.

NJT is in a bind here , the PA should give them a discount on tolls until the new terminal is built. And the bus lane should also operate in the afternoons which would reduce delays...

I think once inflation eases some more next year you'll start to see 24/7 return on weekends...and by 2024 everywhere.

Then people shouldn't complain about high taxes...larger towns in Bergen County have lower property taxes then the smaller ones the difference is usually 3-7,000$.

Who said they had too...not every town and city needs to merge...but we have way to many in this state. Larger towns/cities like Montclair , Newark , Jersey City , Trenton , Washington Township (Gloucester), New Brunswick are fine the way they are but mini towns like East Newark , Guttenberg , South Hackensack , Teterboro , Bordentown city , Burlington City , Fieldsboro should merge into their neighboring towns/cities... That also applies to Counties like Salem > Cumberland , Sussex > Warren , Gloucester > Camden.
