These routes are on a dedicated right of way, so they can hit the top vehicle speeds which is 55mph. This country tends to build hybrid light rail - commuter rail more in line with the old Inturbans that used to crisscross most of the older suburbs pre-1950s. The Newark-Elizabeth LRT should be a light metro along with the proposed JFK Boulevard BRT. Building a Metro on the other lines would be very expensive as it would have to be fully grade separated and would require a new separate approach to the terminal stations. Where as the current proposal would just be extension of existing lines , replacing a few bus routes. The proposed Hudson-Bergen-Passaic LRT would be an extension of the line Hoboken-Tonnelle Avenue service & the Northern Branch LRT would be an extension of the West Side Ave line. With the proposed Newark-Paterson LRT that would be an extension of Broad Street Shuttle. The density along alot of these corridors is too low to justify a metro but requires more frequent service then an electrified commuter rail with closer station spacing. The existing NJT commuter rail service could then act as an express service.

The Bergen-Passaic-Hudson LRT goes along a different corridor through the Industrial part of Paterson and surrounding Industrial suburbs along with the city of Hackensack...the road network in those areas is at capacity.. The existing rail service dips south after the Downtown bypassing the area. The NJT 1 Bus is overcapacity despite running every 10mins the LRT line would largely replace that with a grade separated line.

It's finally stable enough to play for hours on end without crashing and there's a program that enables you to play on higher resolutions and adds auto save. The network addon mod is updated every few months and adds 100+ new bridges , new tunnels , new highways , light rail , high speed rail , new crosswalks , wide intersections , long multi tile commuting , you can force sims to commute by transit or by car or 50/50.

Good ole Sim City 2000 , used to play that game when I was young back in the late 90s...then SC3000 and then onto Sim City 4 which I still play today. SC4 turned 20yrs old a few weeks ago and has over 30,000 custom assets you can download.. Would be nice if someone from this Subreddit could create some Urban Jersey buildings. Only one has made and that is 30 Hudson Street in Jersey City.

Part of the problem was the steep grades , the LIRR tunnel was below the F train which is a triple-decker tube once it reaches Manhattan. So to have it go from 63rd street to 45th Street and that would have been to steep for US spec'd trains. I'm sure with some modifications an International spec'd train could have handled that. But the FRA required these outrageously heavy trains up until 10yrs ago...so long as the line has PTC installed they can use the European designed trains which are also cheaper to buy. Unfortunately you still see many status quo agencies like the MTA or NJT sticking with the old regulations vs agencies down south or out west going with the new regulations.

Most States are very similar , I believe the Full build for New York State which involves building at least 700 miles of dedicated passenger tracks , electrification , new bridges and upgraded stations + 300 miles of secondary track upgrades comes in at 15 billion. But is a drop in the bucket compared to the close to 30 billion in statewide highway and road projects.. Massachusetts has a 10 billion statewide Intercity rail plan but again its less then half of what the road projects cost..

Just like many have said, I miss the old Brownstone and I hate this trend of making Diners into rebranded hipster overpriced piles of crap... The Tick Tock Diner on Route 3 has suffered a similar fate and Tops Diner in East Newark also got a rebranding...lost all its character and charm of the old building... Only a few dozen true diners left in this region , Bendix on route 17 , Andros in Newark , Broadway Diner in Bayonne , Court Square Diner , Murray Hill Diner to name a few..

The Keystone Corridor is already 110mph so upgrading it to 125mph wouldn't be that hard , you just need to smooth out some curves. The rest of the network would be 80-110mph and if we go by proposed or plans underway in nearby states it would cost around 300-400 million for the Susquehanna Network , slightly less for the Lackawanna, although it would be around a billion if you included the Southern Tier and all the SEPTA proposals combined are around 2.5 billion...spread that out over 10yrs and its pretty reasonable.

At least with Intercity, it's the Airlines and the long distance bus services that would lose the most. Regional Rail / Public Transit its the auto industry, but that impact isn't as strong or damaging. I wish PA was like Virginia which just recently bought up most of the busy freight corridors for 5 billion and plans on expanding Amtrak services along with speeding up the lines... North Carolina and Maryland might do something similar in the not to distant future along with Massachusetts and Maine...

That day service train to NY is planned under both the NY and PA state rail plans It's to fill in the service gap. I'm not proposing high speed rail but corridor service with dedicated passenger tracks alongside existing freight rail lines with increased speeds up to 110mph. The Amtrak 2035 Plan and most state plans do not have high speed rail in them at least not above 125mph. The focus is on improving and expand corridor services which are more popular and easier to build. Under the 125mph upstate ny empire upgrade you would see end to end travel times be reduced by 4hrs down to 5hrs from NY to Niagara Falls and 6hrs to Erie,PA. There's also a separate study underway for the southern tier region of NY so Erie might a few more trains from NY by 2035. Most of the Main Lines in PA were built for speed so re-installing a second track and upgrading it wouldn't be hard. You wouldn't need to take land or do any serious infrastructure work in most cases.

The estimated cost is around 300 million for new tracks , small yard , 4 new/rebuilt stations , and catenary. The 104 bus is a different service corridor and a slower one. I would replace it will a Suburban Trolley service from 69th Street to 476 and the 103 as well... The remaining underused portion could be cut completed or reduced. The State has a backlog of Critical rail projects that need to be funded so those will likely go first along with the various bridge and road rebuilds...
