It’s total BS. I lived on a dead end private road for 5 years off Vernon street and it was absolute shite. The plows would barely even touch it, and the few plows that did the complex at the top of the hill would literally lift up their plows and drive past us as they went back down. Residents still have to pay property and excise tax but you don’t get the same benefits as everyone else who lives on a “public” street.

Coyote have no natural predators in Massachusetts and haven’t for at least a century. That means a disproportionate effect on the deer population and other problems that come from them being more habituated in residential settings.

It’s definitely exaggerated by people who either don’t live here or haven’t lived here since the 90s. I see the same stuff with people talking about downtown when reviewing restaurants. Worcester has some rough areas but it’s not LA lol.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. I’m looking for something more like an outdoor festival with different things going on, hot chocolate, ice sculptures, music etc. I get that it won’t be the same as Holiday in the Park going on all month, but even if it was just for a weekend or something I’d definitely try to go.

My sister moved to Athens county near the border of WV. I don’t know if I would agree with a lot of peoples’ politics there but she’s renting a 3 bedroom house for about what I’m paying for a little studio here.

Depends on what you do for work. I’m a Machinist and there’s tons of shops hiring in and around Worcester for the type of work I do. I could probably get about $5-$10/hr more if I commuted to Boston but I’d rather not.

I’m moving into a 350 sq ft studio for $925. You can find some studios or 1 bedrooms in the 1k -$1200 range on sites like Zillow and Trulia but they go super fast. If you don’t mind having roommates you should be able to find something for under $900.

The metered spots downtown are $1.50 minimum for an hour I think. You used to be able to just put a quarter in for 15 minutes or so but they changed it when it went digital. The municipal garages allow free parking during snowstorms for a certain time period to help clear the roads.

Yup, gotta love how in addition to having unnecessary and over the top inspection laws this state adds an additional penalty for the crime of not having a driveway to park in while having said rejection sticker. I’ve said it before and I’ll be happy to say it again - MA inspection laws and penalties are primarily a class tax on lower income residents. Oh and since I’m sure someone will bring this up, there is little to no correlation between car accidents due to mechanical failure and states that have more lenient inspection laws.

That has been my experience too. I lived near Crompton park for 3 years and lived off Vernon street for 5 and never had a problem with anyone. I just go to work and go about my business. The worst that happened was once when someone drove by with a BB gun and shot out a bunch of car windows. Other than being occasionally unlucky with stuff like that it’s not bad.

In general anywhere closer to the outside of the city is better - North Worcester around Burncoat street, East side around Lake Ave or the west side around Worcester state/Salisbury street west of park Ave. I’ve lived in less desirable parts of the city since 2009 and I’ve never had any issues except a few instances of very minor car vandalism, neighbors getting arrested and the occasional parking dispute in the winter. Its definitely not as bad as the worst parts of any major city. I’m single, live alone and mostly keep to myself so things don’t bother me much.
