Probably the same reason folks pay people to mow their lawns: they don't want to deal with it. By contracting it out, the city doesn't have to manage all of the individual parking employees, pay for their healthcare and retirement, and really only has to deal with one point of contact when there are issues. I don't know when they switched to this model, but it's been a good 10 years at least at this point...

The city actually contracts out parking enforcement, so 99% of the citations are done by Standard Parking Plus and their employees, the same folks that manage all of the city owned parking decks and lots. SP+ gets a fee for each ticket they write, and the city gets the rest, so it's in SP+'s best interest to write as many as possible to keep revenue up.

^ This. I got a base model Roland a few years back for free. The last 5 keys in the upper range didn't work after the previous owner's daughter spilled water on it, but was able to take it apart and clean up the contacts and get it working like it should. I intended on relearning the piano, but ended up giving it to my niece since she started taking lessons. I have a collection of brasswinds so I'm still tootin' my own horn...

3 years there some 30 years ago. But even though we lived off base, I never picked that much up other than some basic stuff because all the German friends I made all wanted to practice their English on me. This was my 8-10 grade years, and young and dumb me went along with it. Older and wiser me wishes that young me wasn't as complacent because it was a totally missed opportunity...

I think you can apply to VCU as a non-degree seeking student and then take German. I took it several years back and the class was anything but full, so you shouldn't run into any restrictions. Reach out to the School of World Studies, they can probably give you more info.

That would be the ideal way, plus it'll make sure that you always have a spot to park in, and you won't have to worry about moving it when they do street cleaning. When my brother lived in Westover Hills, they had a couple of spots in the back and it made their lives so much easier.

There is 0 guarantee that you'll be able to park in the same place every day on the street, and you can't block the alley. Ideally, you'll be able to get your car into your backyard from the alley and place one there, and unless you're buying your house, don't expect to have a fast charger...

Good luck!

Just about any retail and shipping place is hiring right now in preparation for the Christmas season, you could take one of those jobs to earn some cash while thinking about your next step...

...whatever you do, don't take a job at 7-Eleven, especially the one near Grace and Harrison, as that one is robbed at least once every quarter. Good luck!

Personally, I like button mushrooms. Sometimes I'll get a container of 'em, wash 'em off, and then snack on 'em raw. They have a nice, light flavor. But yea, once you start mixing 'em with stuff, their flavor is overshadowed. Oysters and morels do sound nice right about now though ;)

If you use the search function, you'll be able to find info on several electricians out there that can do this. The things that will likely drive the cost the most will be where your garage is in relation to your electrical panel. If it's far away and through several walls, running the 240 Volt wire will be more challenging, and the amperage you want to charge at will be a cost factor, because wire that can handle 80 amps will cost significantly more than wire that handles 16 amps (which so happens to be the range those cars are rated for) The higher the amps, the faster the charge.
