The fudgery has been gone for at least a decade, but relatives took me to one in a diff city much longer ago. I like your idea of Fed Hill (great for all ages) and just poking around the harbor. Maybe hop into a dragon boat for a float on the water-I would have thought they’d be done for the season, but saw them out this week.

Yup! OP needs to trash their original list of neighborhoods (except Hampden, though I’m not quick to recommend that one either). Remington, Charles Village, and Bolton Hill are where they should start. Maybe Greenmount West. Personally, I think Mt Vernon has lost its luster and doesn’t seem great for kids. Medfield is in a great public school district, so I’ll throw that into the ring.

Cakes from Yia Yia’s in Rosedale (I think) have impressed many a dinner party crowd. Don’t know if they’ll have what you’re looking for, but worth looking into

Wow, you are way more a planner than I am. What are they showing in a month?

Also, you’ll be fine. It’s a little grittier than the harbor (and more interesting), so follow the normal city safety rules. If you’re there with some daylight, check out the murals around the neighborhood and grab dinner at Joe Squared or one of the Korean joints.
