Nah I'd bet the sub would be fucked. The majority of people here expect AGI before 2029. Kind of insane to me. So we'll see what happens.

If the singularity doesn't occur by 2045, or if AGI isn't achieved by 2029 Ray will lose all credibility. I wonder what will happen to this subreddit if that happens.

I'd rather be pleasantly surprised instead of expecting something to happen.
TheHamsterSandwich t1_itos3pb wrote
Given Ray's credibility, I don't doubt that AGI will be achieved by 2029.
But that doesn't mean the change will be instant.
All these people saying "Wouldn't AGI just turn into a super intelligence really quickly" do not see reality. It will take decades for that transition into a jobless utopia.
I'd like to be proven wrong but I don't think I will be.

There's no way nearly all jobs will be automated in 10 years. Even with exponential advances in technology, I can't see that happening.

No job automation until at least half a century from now.

Live life as normal. The optimism that runs this subreddit is often disappointing in reality. 5-10 years from now, things won't be that different if different at all.

There's no evidence of us being in a simulation.
TheHamsterSandwich t1_it87l2j wrote
No, we're not in a simulation.
Sure, it's fun to think something like that.
However, throughout my life I've seen horrible things happen. Things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy. In a world like this, I find it more believable that we're here simply because of impossible odds.
Here's something to think about...
What kind of creator of a simulation would allow such suffering to occur? There are problems all around the world that the technological singularity has potential to solve.
People like Elon Musk think they're in a simulation because their life goes well, I'd even go as far as saying a little too well. Like levels of "I could solve longevity but I don't want to" levels.
The creator of the simulation needs us to suffer for their enjoyment?
Now that is what I call true evil.
