Actually this is NOT what the data says. It says in Oct 2022 it hit a record of people in city/state run shelters. Not overall homelessness. It spiked by like 20k people in Sep/Oct 2022 for some reason. That is weird -- looking at all the past data, this has never happened and huge spikes are not common. Which means something is not explained here, something changed on a dime. Not sure what it is but anyone looking at the data would take away that some outside factor changed or methodology changed

>McDonald's fans located in the Big Apple were twice as likely to order from the restaurant between 12 am–4 pm than the rest of the US

I bet this is highly skewed because McD's in the city are disproportionally open 24 hours vs the rest of the country which closes earlier and opens later. -- so other parts of the US can't even order then if they wanted to. Of course places that are open are going to be visited more than one thats closed

Oh I get this one, but I think the downsides are worse. Yes, you don't want your investment to go belly up, like for example when many countries nationalized industries and such. There's good and bad, but I think there needs to be a firmer line on things such as real estate acquisition vs. direct investment or equity investments which. The idea that a foreign nation collects rents like an artistocrat of old in the US is pretty fucking odd and comes with many issues

Just so you know. Statistics and research show that Asian populations in the US are overwhelmingly lower rates of drinking than other ethnicities and are at the bottom for alcohol consumption. So when they say Asian populations in the US don’t drink as much, that is true.

Here’s just a few studies

And a nyc related one

I’m not sure if the bar/social life aspect would work in those cultures. Especially mixing men and women. And dating isn’t as straightforward and such. I’m not sure how many locals would be open to “bar culture”. Even in many counties that are fine with alcohol, bar culture can be almost nonexistent or very different than the west.

People try this every handful of years in cities big and small and almost never works out, mostly for business reasons.

Anyways, Im actually surpised on the lack of non-alcoholic beverages in most bars. Anywhere in the west, even small bars usually offer a handful of stuff like kombucha, teas, or specialty soda and more, even on tap. NYC its very minimal.

If you want to move here you can. If you're set on it, then there it is. You're the only one stopping you from moving. Millions of bright eyed people from around the world have dreamed of moving to NYC or LA or Paris, the lights, the culture, everything. You can too.

Don't worry about "expectations" other than like most big cities, NYC is expensive, so expect it to be expensive. NYers tend to complain about 1 major thing, the price. Next would be how the Knicks could be good, but they never are, god dammnit.

The best place to begin is deciding if you want to move or not. Take it out of the theoretical.

I’d just go to the lounge.

A 5 hour layover really means like 2:30. You’ll pay like 12 bucks each way for air train and subway just to go like 3 stops, grab a sandwich, sit down, and then go back.

Don't worry about safety. NYC is very safe, you're fine. Everything is fine. Don't even think about it again. Turn off Fox News or idiot youtubers or any of that crap.

3 museums is a whole lotta museum time. Each one is pretty big, especially the Met and natural hustory (MoMa is smaller).

I'd recommend the Met as the overwhelming #1, and then only do a second one if you have to have more museum time. MoMa is for if you really really just want to see more art, Natural History is geared a bit more towards kids, and frankly I think unless you feel like you have to go, skip and and enjoy something else in town

The issue is that its valued like a tech company, which is not the business its in. And its comparable businesses are not valued the same. And they are clearly on the decline.

One of the big things they had going for them early was the cost was wildly competitive to hotels and other lodging but that advantage has dried up, because the company needs to like, actually make money, and people doing AirBnBs became professional AirBnBers and that was never the intention and its pushed rates higher.

Just don't show up or call in "sick".

Long story, but on a grand jury you only need to serve like a certain amount of the days or something like that, and its not the full amount you're scheduled for. Its totally normal for people to miss days all the time or just stop showing up at some point. Nothing to worry about. Take the day off. No issues. Officially you're supposed to be there, but its actually in conflict with what counts as serving, so yes, you can miss days.

That said.. 20 days is unusual. You won't know your actual schedule until you have which specific grand jury you're selected for, on the day you show up and are selected. Most are 10-14 days.
