Interesting. I'd think most heat is oil or gas and altho it takes some electricity not nearly as much as AC.

I never tracked it that closely. Have rates ever gone down? I only recall it ever going in 1 direction. Why would rates go down in summer when demand is higher for AC? Just curious

First...I agree. Metro North is way to go.
But...for the others...My advice with Amtrak is it is only good if you are coming from Hartford or New Haven in the morning only. Hartford line does not connect well with metro North. It's super annoying
If you buy in advance (by at least a week) the ticket has been 20 to 30 bucks for the direct one in the morning that arrives before 10am. The cost is only a few bucks more than peak train and way more comfortable especially in early morning. The afternoon trains for amtrak are a mess always... especially northbound. Delays of hours are super common. Not worth the risk just hop on the mtn.
Edit to clarify the physical connection is easy but there is often a wait time of 20 to 50 minutes. Only reason i mention but still good option considering parking in New Haven is expensive

Came here to add you cannot rely on Amtrak. For instance Hartford to NYC on Amtrak route isn't bad. It's comfortable and quick and lately the price is great 1 week ahead.. but only .if it is on time. Most mornings it's OK but the return trip is delayed almost every day. Often by 2 hours. Simply unreliable.

For what it is worth. I already voted..... I went to each of the candidates official websites. In many cases the info the candidate had on thier home screen was revealing enough to me. Starting at the "source" to see what they have to say about themselves is a good place to start.

Looks like a bogus study and honestly not reading it .. BUT... I have read other similar studies and one of the main driving factors is that compared to other states we have the worst commuting time. Between how far people travel (like Milford to NY or Middletown to Danbury) for thier jobs ... and then add our horrible traffic and accident rate.
I know this improved for some with WFH but not all

Just build in tons if time. I go to and from Hartford area and I would give 4 hours... probably takes 3 but if you have a deadline then be conservative. Or even more time and just grab food. The further away you can park the better..as others said come down the west side ( but monitor Google and waze you never know accidents or Yankees game). And then park as comfortably you guys feel toward the west side. Once you past 10th Ave it could be backed up.
Also keep in mind SUVs are more money in a garage. Not sure what you have.
Have fun!!!! And bring umbrellas in car in case.

Dude it's Halloween weekend... it'll be busy and traffic . Especially if temps are good. Also where is the show. Nyc is a big place. Parking will likely be more.
It sounds like any public transit is out of question? I am not going to ask the medical condition but the guys who work at MTA can be super helpful...and you'd be getting on and off at the last stop so once you're on the train you're good. I know there could be other conditions that make it impossible.
You may get lucky but I'd be prepared for am extra hour plus of traffic depending on where you're starting.
