You know someone is completely blinded by their partisanship when they can't even consider the message because of the messenger. It's a heavily emotional reaction.
The insanity of this kind of logic or rather lack of it: Obama didn't support gay marriage in 2007 and prior therefore everything good he did after that is immediately poisoned and we shouldn't have the ACA or expanded medicaid.
Oh and members from both parties- biased GOP database of Dem allegations have been challenging the integrity of elections and insisting about various ones being stolen since 2000. There's dems who insist that Stacey Abrams in GA had the governorship stolen from her - all while justifiably flipping out about the 2020 stolen election nonsense.
If we want to be consistent about this, fine. But each side is willing to allege fraud when they lose, so if we immediately insist the well is poisoned for any good law or reform they propose, we would never get anything done.

Wheel bearing if it makes that sound while driving normally. (Sometimes combined with a whirring sound)
-
Or if the grinding sound happens when you press on your brakes, then likely it's the brake pad.

Honestly...
Just slow down. Really. Don't try to make a yellow light. Give yourself plenty of time to stop. Go as slow as you need to.
Me and the fam are initially from Wisconsin and Illinois so we are used to driving in snow and as long as you slow down, you usually will be fine. Just be on the lookout for black ice.

Depending on how far you want to travel in and around Springfield there's places like First Call that are almost like a temp agency for CNAs. Because of shortages at nursing homes, senior care, rehab facilities, memory care, etc you can pick up shifts that might pay anywhere from $20 - $50 depending on location and time. (I've heard of people making 1500 in a weekend before.)

Its a double edged sword, but at last the wait staff get tips. (Sucks to be a bus boy, host, etc.
- A lot alot of business dont report tips - which semi benefits them as well as employees, but also probably means less of a tax return because of less claimed income.
- This also means that alot of businesses - mostly food sector - can make servers end up skipping their breaks and lunches and working early and later hours for prep and closing where you cant make any tips. (Surprisingly, no one wants to close.) Because you are getting paid-under-the-table by not reporting tips, you have to tolerate missing your lunches and breaks. (Very shitty.)
The upside though is that if you are extroverted, outgoing, attractive, charismatic or any combination of those you will probably make at least double the minimum tipped wage of where you work at least. Ive known servers to easily rake in 75k a year and not much of that ends up getting taxed if its cash tips, so you effectively are making more than 75k. (For instance $13 an hour untaxed is close to $17?)
But what about the rest of the workers who dont fall into any of those categories and people either stiff them or dont tip much for whatever reason? You are working a job with those existing negatives of prep, close, not getting your breaks and lunches, etc.
There is the Seattle approach where some restaurants just got rid of tipping and added a 20% gratuity that was shared with the staff. (This is when Seattle made the minimum wage 15$ regardless of wait staff or not.)
Some staff liked it, but as you can imagine others didnt. (Probably the ones who would have made more money with tips based on various characteristics.) The downside to that is prices when up with basically all the restaurants, and this was before the pandemic and inflation.
If you were a family of 4 with a budget of 40$ including the tip, you probably cant go out anymore. Dining out becomes a privilege of the upper middle class with the exception of places like Steak-N-Shake or fast food.
At some point there's gonna have to be a massive change to how the restaurant industry works.

- How much have you documented? Screenshots? Emails? Pictures? Any audio?
- Do you have any contact or can you contact any of these other people you've mentioned? (The fired black employee for instance?)
- You could probably talk to a lawyer about what might needed to file an actual OSHA or DOL complaint.
- These people work for Walmart and Brosnan. I'm not dunking on anyone's job, but in a very tight labor market for "low-skilled" labor in retail and service sectors, businesses are likely gonna sweep this under the rug. That and these people don't work for Google or in some kind of corporate white Collar high paying job. They can't be "cancelled" It's like getting someone fired from Mcdonalds. They can literally just go down the street to any of the other fast food places desperate for workers.
- Best of luck and this might actually be a blessing. You were working a thankless job where you can't actually/aren't allowed to do much. If the people you are around won't help themselves, move on. Don't let it drag you down.

Alot of NIMBYs all over across every region in the US regardless of their politics don't seem to actually want affordable housing if it's near them.
Even the Clinton's former Labor Secretary who is as left as they come and very concerned about income inequality- he should be - doesn't actually want affordable housing in his Berkeley neighborhood. (Its almost impossible to build anything residential in CA as it is as environmental impact laws are deliberately abused to delay projects indefinitely and make them cost prohibitive.)
Here in Springfield they NIMBYd down a resolution on the ballot to possible build more housing because of the park there being too important and possible traffic.
Then there's also the laws in place for zoning that deliberately prevent churches and other charitable organizations from helping house the homeless. This is the case regardless of whether it's a blue/red city or state. Why?
Who is putting these laws through? Also why are so many people who care about the homeless not want to actually live near them or better yet... take them in?

Cringe. There may be some issues with this law, but still cringeworthy is this share.
Homelessness far predates Capitalism - and what we have can barely be considered Capitalism. (Not that Capitalism is some kind of Utopia.) Alot of the problems societies face don't go actually go away, Capitalism or not.
This is the same kind of cringe where people label safety nets or Medicare for all as extreme socialism.

This.
The things here that are geared toward families with kids are very affordable and within a 20 minute drive.
That's a big deal as it's hard to find anything resembling a semi city lifestyle that's affordable for actual families. Most cities aren't and are often not kid friendly or a place you can raise a family.
Springfield certainly has issues, but I'd take it over somewhere like St Louis or Chicago.
