From time to time I do the Palisades Interstate Park route that enters just south of the GW bridge and meanders its way all the way to the Park headquarters, and then continues. It's a beautiful ride (heck, even had a first date with an Italian beauty that consisted of doing that ride and then swinging back into NYC) but getting there is the biggest headache, really. I have tried going up Central Avenue and that's just as bad. At least with River Road you can sort of avoid some of the nonsense by riding along the waterfront, though that is also not super convenient due to its haphazard layout. In any case, that whole ride through the park, all the way up to Nyack, is positively beautiful and really, really nice. I should give it a go again. It's been a long while.

Dude! This is happening A LOT. I just watched a guy do this to cut ahead of two cars at a super busy intersection. And, then saw it again an hour later again, but this time the maniac full on went on the opposite lane, sped up and skipped ahead of ~6 other cars, got to the intersection and cut off the guy waiting to turn.

Are you me? I used to average well over 100 miles in JC and NYC, then I switched to mostly weekend riding in LSP, and some waterfront riding, but gave that up because it does get old fast, and once you get on River Road it is simply too dangerous to deal with those drivers. Not sure what it is, but the drivers all over Hudson County are positively insanely aggressive. I switched to Peloton in 2014, kept at it for 5+ years and about to start up again since I miss riding but don't feel like dealing with all the stress. I still ride along the waterfront from time to time, but even that feels stressful at times as people walk around meandering all over the place with their faces buried in their phones, while others walk their dogs in retractable leashes without keeping them close by, so I am constantly having to avoid collisions. Just too much nonsense in general. So frustrating, really.

Count me as part of that demographic! I got hit head on by an old geezer who decided he didn't want to wait his turn to turn onto a cross street, so he went around the guy that was correctly waiting at the intersection and he ran into me head on. My wheel got bent and I got thrown off, though nothing super serious. I have had a driver throw things at me while yelling "get on the sidewalk!" and another deranged maniac get within inches of my back wheel while riding on Grand St because he didn't like being behind a bicycle.

Hmm. Maybe not as slim as you think? This subreddit now has almost 60K subscriber. The JC population is ~280K, and some of that is definitely very young kids and such, or other demographic not taking the PATH. I would say close to 25% to 33% of the JC commuting demographic is in this sub, so maybe not so crazy to think posting here could help reunite the hat with its rightful owner.

Newsflash: the fire department is not just there to respond to fires. In fact, the JCFD provides first responder emergency medical services, which is why any accident involving the light rail, or even a major vehicular accident, will have them dispatched.

Yeah, not sure why you are getting downvoted to badly. You are not wrong... tons of headlines of exactly this happening all over the US. Years of bad communications between neighbors related to massive displays or other grievances can result in some serious shit.

This is the correct read. The issue of double-dipping was really about government jobs that resulted in multiple pensions. And, of course, the overlap of what were supposed to be FULL TIME jobs which meant holding two (or, more) was impossible and obvious fraud. That some people have a full time government job, and do one or two other ones that are just a few hours here and there? That's hardly news or even corrupt. Some of the examples cited were so benign as to actually detract from the overall conversation. This whole thing truly comes across as people desperate for relevance making a stink about a non-issue. Stay focused and go after the real corruption and not someone getting paid a few K for an advisory role or some other super small side gig.

I have never used LSC. But, to be perfectly honest, I would not consider using Level 2 AT ALL, unless it is a charging station where you can conveniently leave your car charging overnight. The most you will get from a Level 2 charger is 22 mi / hr (Chargepoint is actually more like 19 mi / hr) so charging a Tesla could take 10+ hours. It's just not efficient. Especially once you get used to supercharging. The only times I used a Level 2 charger is when I am running an errand and the charger is conveniently located at the same location. So, the free chargers at some Whole Foods locations, or Level 2 chargers in parking lots where I am going to be for a few hours while dining, shopping, etc. Otherwise, I rely entirely on superchargers.

Yes, but not so simple lately. The Kearny Supercharger has grown in popularity with the ever growing Tesla fleet in this area, so it is often really backed up. On Monday, in the middle of the day, I was planning to head there as part of a larger trip to run several errands, but instead opted for Newport because Kearny was showing a long wait. And, that has become a very common occurrence for that location. Overall, the best availability is always at the mall. Yeah, it sucks that you have to pay to access the chargers (the fee is now $4, minus the JC resident discount, if you bother getting your ticket validated) but there are always multiple stalls open for use.
