I have a feeling that a ton of people are gonna find themselves unable to clear airport security come May, 2023 because they don’t seem to grasp the details of what will be required going forward.

That’s only partly right. If you work for the City of NY, and were born after 01/04/1973, then you also have to pay the NYC income tax.

Yeah, that's a tough area to reach efficiently without private transportation. A simple 25 minute drive can take 2 hours in public transit, and it would be a mess of three seats, maybe four. I do that drive once a month and I am always perplexed by how hard it would be to do it without having a car.

The funniest part of this entire saga is that so many of us predicted this very outcome because we know and understand the history and current realities of local politics, and got ridiculed and skewered (even the cutesy "ok, boomer!" got thrown around... lol) but here we are 3 months later.

You must mean Union Township, and not Union City, because an UberX to Union City should be less than $18.

It's crazy that people keep insisting on using words and expression they do not fully understand or know how to use properly. All of a sudden, "per se" has become the new "cool" expression to use but few seem to understand how it is written, when to use it, or what it means. Of course, these are the same people writing "would of" and "should of".

So, if the issue is "Columbus", why would "Columbus Drive" be any better than "Christopher Columbus Drive"?
bodhipooh t1_irkyt5q wrote
So…. What exactly would be the difference?? Do you *really* think that "Christopher Columbus Drive" is more problematic than "Columbus Drive"?
And, since you are so seemingly set on virtue signaling, why not lobby for Marin Blvd to be properly referred to as Muñoz Blvd?? I mean, technically, Marin Blvd is named after Puerto Rico's first democratically elected governor, whose name was Luis Muñoz Marin, and the proper address when not using both last names would be to use just the first last name.

Not sure what point you think you are making... If you want to pay less, you can move into a less expensive property. Ultimately, the fact is that total dollars are based on a simple equation:
(property tax rate) * (property value) = (total dollars)
How do you propose that result be lowered? The sum of all (total dollars) is what funds the municipal budget. If you want to pay less in property taxes you can either move somewhere else, or move to a lower value property within JC. But, bitching about total dollars paid in an online forum will not make the existing commitments magically disappear. We have a municipal budget, a county budget, and a school budget. The portion of the current tax levy represented by the school budget is slated to keep increasing for several more years. That's a fact. The municipal budget is not likely to shrink any time soon, so you can count on that remaining at the same level, or going up. The county budget seems to always go up, even if just a little bit. So... what is your proposal to lower "total dollars"??

It's impossible to have a rational conversation with someone who willfully ignores the basic facts. Property taxes are based on property value. PERIOD. There is no such thing as "our property tax rate is high when calculated based on square footage" because that's not even a thing. You are trying to change the definition to fit your idea of how things are or should be, but that's not a rational thing to do. The conversation is quite simple: in the state of NJ, we have one of the lowest property tax rates. That's an incontrovertible fact.

Don't worry about that. Property taxes will continue to increase for the next several years as the remaining state school funding cuts are phased in. Besides, we have a very low rate by NJ standards, so it is inevitable that the current rate will increase quite a bit over the next several years.

If you lived there and moved here, I hope you have learned by now that such measures won't fly in JC. I mean, unless you are willing to go full southie and beat someone to death over their audacity to avail themselves of a cleared up spot. In which case, maybe don't come here... we have enough crazies already.

YUP. I saw that iteration as well. Haven't walked past it recently, so not sure if it is still a thing. It always struck me as incredibly entitled to string an electrical extension overhead, wrapped around a tree, down to a parking spot. Surely they know they don't own that tree and overhead space to do with it as they please? People are interesting...

YES. That's the one... 1116 Walnut. As if it wasn't enough that they have ridiculously good wings, they also have an insanely good selection of beers on tap. The wings are whole wings, not the wing portions thing they serve in most places. A Moriarty's wing is essentially 2 (or, 3?) wings elsewhere.

If done right I personally don't see a problem. But, I have seen people not do it this way (there's someone in Paulus Hook that runs a cable and it is just strewn across the sidewalk, as a tripping hazard) and that's definitely not cool. Put a proper cable ramp, to minimize any tripping risk, and be mindful of others.

Unpopular take: we don't have great wings in DTJC, or even in all of JC. There are some decent wings in some places, but nothing that is truly special or even great. If you want insanely good wings, drive down to Philly and hit up Moriarty's. As ridiculous as it sounds, it is totally worth it to drive there just to have wings and drink some quality beer.

As others have pointed out, forget about Newport and instead opt for Hoboken. By the time the PATH arrives in Newport, it is fairly crowded, but riding from Hoboken is comparatively pleasant. The same is even more true for the return trips, where trains to JSQ are always uniformly crowded, while the ones heading to Hoboken usually have seats available.
