Why do you feel it being a "mental distraction" is somehow a legit excuse? Driving is a complicated task which requires 100% concentration at all times.

I worked there in the 80s...but you certainly have me beat with Oakland history!

Oakland has had 5 full traffic signals on Rt 202 for many years:
At the south end, East Oak Street, W. Oakland Ave, Rt 287 NB ramp, and Franklin Avenue. The one at W. Oakland Ave has been there at least 30 years (likely more), and the others have also been there a long time.

I agree, roundabouts per person doesn't make sense. Maybe roundabouts per vehicle miles traveled?

I think we have too much NIMBYism, which leads to opposition. I tried to get a roundabout built in Ringwood. Should have been an easy sell, since at the time Ringwood took pride in being very rural with no traffic signals.
The nearby Church lied and told everyone the County needed to take their property for the project, and that their Septic system would be in jeopardy. So....now Ringwood has their first traffic signal.

Reply to Is there any practical reason to use the turnpike over RT 295 once you are south of exit 5? by Acceptable_Reading21
Although I don't drive through there that often, from looking at past traffic patterns on Google Maps, traffic on 295 around the interchanges with Rt 70...and with Rt 42, is much worse than the Turnpike in that area.

They can be sued, but it would be impossible (IMO) to prove that the blue line caused the crash. Every driver knows what a solid double yellow line means. The presence or absence of a different color in between the yellow lines doesn't change the meaning of a double yellow.

Nah...last month I was in exactly the same situation - literally took less than 5 minutes at MVC.

That cannot be the real reason. If there is enough volume to justify 2 lanes SB to EB, then obviously there is similar volume WB to NB. The real reason is probably that it would have been too costly to widen for that 2nd lane.

Having 565 municipalities is the biggest reason for high property taxes. Several towns have a Board of Education with paid employees...and no schools! They are too small to support their own schools, so they send their kids to schools in neighboring towns.
